Guys, I just downloaded Windows Live Messenger 2009, and it doesn’t show my contacts locations beside their names/pictures anymore.
Can anyone tell me/send me a link to download a version of WLM that shows my contacts locations?
March 25, 2009 at 10:13 pm #173782Doris KenneyParticipantI don’t recall ever seeing that as a feature of WLM. Were you using a 3rd party application or plugin for this?
March 25, 2009 at 10:57 pm #173785JRW092MemberNo, I didn’t have any add-ons or anything of that sort.
I have attached a prntscrn image of what it looks like from my friends computer.
Under my name, it says, “has new interests – (64 days ago).”
It previous had my location, instead of ‘has new interests.’

It looks almost like it’s taking information from the What’s New feed (since it references a number of days ago) but location isn’t one of those options.

It stopped responding yesterday, so I uninstalled it, then re-installed it. It was working at first, but today I signed out and signed in a few moments later, and it had stopped using that feed. I honestly don’t understand why it stopped working suddenly. My ‘Whats New’ feed is working perfectly, though. It only shows the location for the first few minutes after you start talking to a contact.

Out of curiousity, how did you manage to let WLM show your contacts’ locations beside their names? Or was it already there in the first place? I’m asking just like Doris was because usually locations of contacts aren’t shown, as far as I know.
March 27, 2009 at 10:08 pm #173784JRW092MemberWhen I downloaded WLM2009 the first time, the locations were shown, but only in the conversation window… just below the contact name and status.
and Doris.. yes the location/news feed is in line with the Mail icon.

Unless there is something integrating with it – like a third party app/hack, or possibly something like Office Communicator (which we’ve seen put odd boxes and icons where they don’t belong) then I have no idea.
It is definitely not a standard feature so if you are seeing it at all then take it for what it’s worth.
