downloaded wlm (build 8.1.0178.00)
entered contacts/all ok with the exception of one contact.
error msg. “the instant messaging address is not valid”
Checked address/spelling/case etc all ok . sent email / address valid/ definitely
online with sky.com
Deleted wlm(control panel delete)
installed WLM (latest build)
still same problem/checked various forums/stickies/Microsoft / etc
any advice appreciatedOS Vista Home premium

And I’m not gonna be any help with your problem either, but wanted to let you know that this is a perfect communication of the problem and the things you did to try to solve it. I’m sure that you will get some possible answers because you certainly laid it out well.
And I apologize for the name thing, it just struck me at this moment.

I believe the person’s email address needs to be associated with their passport.net account. You can’t just add any address they happen to use for emails. If the person has not registered they can go here http://www.passport.net/ to do so. Or if they are registered, they need to tell you the address they used. Then you should be able to add them.
I did however do a quick Google to try and confirm and happened to see another forum where you posted this question. You may not be aware of it, but you received an inquiry from Jonathan Kay. You should consider yourself among the few andd the proud. He is widely considered the “guru” of WLM and he rarely answers posts , but has asked you for more information.
I would STRONGLY suggest you go over to those forums and post a reply as you are likely to get the best possible answer from him. He knows the program as well as anyone. I’m reasonably sure of my answer, but I would most definitely get his opinion if I had the opportunity.
Let me know if this ends up the correct solution please.

Seriously though,thanks againSorry for the obscure reference. It’s a combination of lines from the movies “300” where King Leonidas yells “This is Sparta” and also “Spartacus” where in the climactic battle scene a bunch of soldiers have been captured, including Spartacus, they are asked to identify Spartacus, and one by one they all declare, “I am Spartacus!”
Both good movies, full of memorable quotes.
