South Beach diet is a little healthier than Atkins. It's how Jessica Simpson got her hot bod.
I used to be a manager for the wrestling team in high school. Here are a few tricks I learned from them.
Wear pants and a sweatshirt when you are working out. You sweat more, thus losing more water (weight).
Sleep in a trash bag. Hey, it sounds funny. I had to put that one in since Oreo posted about bengay and saran wrap. For real though, that's what our wrestlers did.
Buy a pack of bubblicious gum. Chew it, and instead of swallowing your saliva, spit into a bottle. Coach had the guys do that on the way to tournaments to try and lose that extra pound or two.
I'm sure you could figure out other ways.September 9, 2005 at 6:11 am #129747EEDOKMemberAnna wrote:…I mean, I wouldn't at all be surprised if it was his own diet that actually killed Atkins. (too weak for the fall)
Thanks anyways. 🙂
He died cause he was old, not cause of his diet. Atkins will make you lose weight but it does come at a cost, and that's you'll lose some of your thinking power cause cutting carbs that wildly isn't too good for your brain.
Usually what matters most is that you pre-emptively eat before you get hungry so you don't get tempted to eat unhealthy food, and that you exercise as if you were an exerciser-nazi.September 11, 2005 at 2:28 am #129748RabidKittenParticipant
Dr. Atkins has been rumored to have died from heart disease. Atikin's diet makes you prone to heart disease. … … Coincidence?
South beach is healthier…but still…I'm not a big fan of fad diets. Ugh. And jessica simpleton…I mean, simpson did more than just diet…she worked out like crazy, especially for the dukes of hazzard.
Alright honey, here's my two cents, pardon for the repeats. (And aqeel, you're hillerious. Yes, depression chopped 20 lbs in two weeks off my roomate, but that was only because he ended up having such bad anxiety he couldn't keep anything down. And it cut me from a normal 100lbs to an 85 last summer, but gosh…you really don't wanna do that. But…it worked… *snickers* Gosh, hillerious you big geek.)
Bike riding is one of the most slimming activities I have ever come into contact with. Bike riding and swimming I think are the best ways to slim out those hard places like your lower stomach and hips, plus it makes your thighs tighten up. I also stick in some rudimentary stretching and yoga, simply beause stretching will keep things lean and from cramping up so much, plus I've found that it helps even out some parts in your body that may seem…well…uneven or puffy. And yoga's just neat, helps stretching, your spinal alignment so you walk properly and feel better, have greater energy plus it has a calming, grounding effect to help with any stress you might be feeling.
As far as eating goes, Sami -hearts- fruit. It has lots of water in it, but it carries vitamins as well as other fun crap, plus it tastes good and doesn't have the disadvantages of super amounts of pasta and breads. *drool* but I love bread too heheheh. Cutting out carbs completely is a -bad idea-. Carbs = energy. You just have to use it! When people don't burn it, that's what gets you the yummy lookin' ‘potential muscle' (As my roomate calls it) around the tummy. I am not a dietition though *shrug* I know most fruit is used as a natural laxitive also, so it keeps you regular and all that fun stuff nobody wants to talk about.
*tap tap tap* Let's see, what else. The Grumbly Tummy fasting is no way to live…like you said, it makes you ill tempered and weak, I certainly would not ever suggest something as drastic as spitting up your saliva to get rid of water weight…that'll just end up making you dehydrated and sickly looking, besides, if you do end up working out and such, you'll end up losing your water weight anyway, if not through working out, then through sweating. Sorry, maybe that just makes me a bad ‘girl' or something that I don't like crash dieting or anything that'll be hazardous to your health just for a dress. *shrug* Meh. Believe me, I'm a hound when it comes to that, I yell at my roomates all the time for not eating healthily then exercising for hours and hours, then wondering why they get sick, or get muscle cramps and headaches.
As for your weight, DO NOT TRUST THE SCALE! With some of these suggestions, they cause you to gain muscle, and muscle weight > fatty weight. Trust your measuring tape, not the scale.
Those are my suggestions. *shrug* But yeah, I never really had to do what you're doing… …but that's what I've observed what happens to me and my roomates when we do/don't do things, what I've read, what makes just good sense and all that fun stuff.
Good luck, hon. Good to see you again and congradulations to your friends!September 11, 2005 at 4:58 am #129745OreoMember
Hmmmmm I wonder when Dr. Kimble will weigh in on this…No pun intended! 🙂 What's your take on this dear doc?? 🙂 (Sorry if I put you on the spot…I just came back from a wonderful night of Irish music, Irish food and Irish beer…NOT the way to lose weight!)September 11, 2005 at 6:18 am #129754gossipingraeMember
speaking of fruit like sami said..i just bought some washington red apples from the super walmart last week. they are the juiciest apples i have ever eaten in my life! so if you shop at super walmrt, pick some up!! they are soo tasty.
and yes, doing nasty stuff like our wrestlers did may not be healthy. i coudl never do it, but it works when you live that kind of lifestyle and need to drop that extra half pound to make weight and compete.
good luck!September 11, 2005 at 8:19 am #129743AnnaParticipant
…Just to clarify, spitting out saliva isn't as unhealthy as it sounds given they're chewing gum to begin with.
When you chew, are around, or even think about food, your sublingual salivary gland begins to produce more saliva than is necessary (this is where the term a “watering mouth” comes from… literally).
Sour foods, like gum, stimulate your salivary glands to produce even more saliva than other foods, so given the boys were actually chewing something, they probably weren't compromising that much of their health.
…Guh. I had sialolithiasis earlier this year, I had to learn lots about spit.September 13, 2005 at 4:34 am #129750neo_ny_23Member
