I’m creating a section on my site, outside of WordPress, that will still utilize WordPress functions – specifically recognizing a valid login. I’ve got it most of the way there, but it doesn’t recognize me as being logged in. Let’s say the section is at tigerblade.net/external/stuff.
On my blog itself, using the wp_register() function displays a link to the admin panel if I’m logged in, and sets $user_ID to the correct ID for my current login. On this new page, wp_register() returns nothing at all (and wp_loginout() returns a link to log in instead of a link to log out like it should). If I hard-code a link to the admin panel, that knows I’m logged in, but this new page doesn’t.
What am I missing? I’ve seen instructions on how to move the home page of wordpress, and how to change the directories, and all sorts of things like that, but none of those help me with this. If any of this makes sense to someone, please help!

Just a guess, I don’t really have any idea.

I changed the wp-includes/pluggables.php file in a few locations to set or clear the cookie for the entire domain rather than just the particular one that WP was installed in.
Thanks. I just needed to get that kick in the obvious direction.

April 7, 2008 at 1:44 am #168533PhilipModeratorTom and David, I’m thinking of creating a personal blog using WordPress. Would that be a good idea? I like the flexibility and options that WP offers. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Otherwise, WordPress offers the ability to set up an easier (but less flexible) blog on their servers, therefore eliminating the need to find your own hosting.
