September 12, 2004 at 9:28 pm #38336DavidParticipantI don’t’ believe the part where the tires go up the ramp. I can see the first one, and maybe even the second one, but that third one shouldn’t be going anywhere with the amount of force that was applied to it. Anyone else think that part looks surreal?
[Edit:] But you know, now that I look at it again, I think it’s just because the camera is moving faster at that part, and it seems that the tires are moving slower than they are.
September 12, 2004 at 9:35 pm #38349bigcfkMemberthere’s a weight in the tire. (i’ve seen a small version of this made before) its the part with the swinging windows I dont get.

yeah I actually just rewatched that the other day (completely unrelated to this or the other thread) and that was the part I always wondered about… but then I realized that yeah the way it moves, it’s gotta have a weight in it at some point, so that it only takes that small amount of force to move the center of gravity far enough to the side that the whole tire keeps rolling uphill
as for the windows…. a cord gets pulled away, which makes the windows swing around like a wind chime, then the slight breeze that they cause makes the thing on the ground tip over… etc etc
i had to watch it a few times again to catch itSeptember 13, 2004 at 12:05 am #38342RabidKittenParticipantRegardless of how real it is, or what weights are where and all of that…606 takes? 6 million dollars??*blank stare* …I have an urge to go buy a honda now…so I guess it worked!
Golly, 606 takes. I made a movie once that took 4 takes in a fighting scene that was about 20 minutes each and I got frustrated…I can’t imagine 606.
September 13, 2004 at 3:10 am #38347SpikeMemberThose things always amaze me. The way one thing hits another which triggets this which activates that etc etc etc… All I have to say is…wow.
September 13, 2004 at 3:14 am #38350bigcfkMember6 hundred and 6 times? Imagine setting that up over and over.
*shakes head in disbelief*September 13, 2004 at 3:58 am #38343rafaelemtMemberThat’s one of the most ingenious ads I ever seen. Worth every penny if you ask me.:D But I have to agree, 606 takes ??? wowww that’s a lot of work 😮

September 13, 2004 at 4:53 am #38346colinMemberYea, I remember me and my friends were making a little mini-movie for QUEST, a “creative/gifted” class, and we kept on erasing over what we already shot, so we had to start over about 5 times. Total pain…
September 13, 2004 at 5:58 am #38337Someguy03MemberLook at those speakers, they are on straw-type stands the thickness of toothpicks and they are both standing up and producing sound. Someone explain how that would work.
September 13, 2004 at 5:11 pm #38339TigerbladeParticipanti’d tend to think they’re not freestanding, but go into the floor a ways…. that would explain both how they can stand, and how they can produce sound without having any cables attached…. but that’s just my thoughts

They obviously need to be up that high so the sound can reverb off the windshield and cause the spring to roll off. Also, the spring had to have some force, so the higer up the better, and the closer the speakers are to the windshield, there are more chances of it being successful. And the thinner they are, the more sleek (and, sometimes expensive) they are.

i think what he meant was how are they able to stand and operate, not how does the motion keep going… it seems almost impossible that such thin supports could hold up such large speakers, much less allow them to still be functional as speakers
September 14, 2004 at 5:45 am #38351vikshankerMemberi watched this 5 or 6 times (had too much free time) and I dont think that even at the speed that the camera was moving in relation to the tires there was enough force to roll each of those tires that far like that.
as for 606 takes- thats what you call precision engineering…
and the speakers… mabye the stand for each of those was made out, say hollow metal tubes, with a white paint on the outside? they speakers do seem to be active in the video, but theres no shaking/wobbling. it was a cool ad… I still dont like honda tho
