Would you be more likely to follow your heart or your head?
July 1, 2001 at 7:44 am #69578SandiMemberI have done both, sometimes successfully, and occasionally, lived to regret my decision. Sometimes the regrets come instantly, some inch their way in slowly over time.
For me, the best decisions have been made by reacting with my heart, and following it up with some soul searching, and then letting my brain take over and think it through, weighing the pros and cons carefully. Then I usually turn to someone I trust to get an objective opinion, but at this point, I have a pretty clear idea of what I should do, and I usually just want them to reaffirm my decision.
I am going through a situation right now that my heart and head are fighting over. My heart is telling me to act one way, and my mind is persuading me to – slow down, take my time, and do the opposite. In the meantime I just spin my wheels, and wait for an epipheny.Edited by – sandi on 07/01/2001 02:47:44 AM
July 1, 2001 at 3:00 pm #69577Jeff HesterKeymasterMost of the time, I tend to follow my heart, especially for the many, spontaneous decisions that I must make in a given day.
When I have to make a really big decision, I try to go for consensus between head and heart.
I think if we made all our decisions based on what our head told us, the world would be a very different, very bleak place. Think of the inventions that wouldn’t have been created because in their “head” they “knew” it couldn’t be done. Or ANY great art or music…created devoid of heart? Not a pretty thought.

I’m a heart person.
Those correct ‘head’ decisions that I have in the past made, I seem to take little pride in, while for those ‘head’ decisions that have failed, I guess I’ll be kicking my butt for a long time yet.
Strangely, my ‘heart’ decisions that triumphed I rejoyce in, while those that failed, I somehow find personal fault in them and fatalistically accept some of the blame.
If this makes me a romantic fool, I accept that.
It seems my ‘heart’ decisions are made by me, my emotional input is part of the decision. No input from another source seems to matter, its personal. While ‘head’ decisions are made weighing up so many other factors, the thoughts of others is accepable input, community input (and hell, they dont even pay the bills), so many outside influences that at times a ‘head’ decision is not even your own.
Gimme my heart, I can live with that.Edited by – rustedtight on 07/03/2001 2:00:14 PM

July 5, 2002 at 6:31 pm #69590snugleupagainstMemberWe speak of following our heart or our head:
When following our heart we go with our hopes, dreams, and longings….
When following our head we go with reasoning and evaluating.
When maybe the answer is Use Your Soul….go with your soul we fight between following our heart or head but if we would follow what our soul tells us we listen to our heart and follow it up with the knowage of our head. We wish there was a quick answer but soul searching and listening to we see and hear it telling takes time, your spirt and soul is what you are and it already feels what your heart wants and what your head knows.

July 26, 2002 at 11:55 pm #69591ShaunM2MemberActually Mr. Diablos, I tend to follow my head too, my heart has been known to get me in trouble sometimes. Everyone says follow your heart, but I seriously believe your heart can mislead you. And as long as you have a clear head on your shoulders, you should make it just fine.
So it is written, so it shall come to pass.

I thought I’d be the only crooked old wench (not implying anything to you two guys) who’d say “Follow your head”….
My heart seems to be a magnet – attracted to… icky n’ stupid things/people.

July 29, 2002 at 11:23 pm #69593TrixieLuMemberI honestly wouldn’t be able to choose between them, because both are essential to a happy life. God gave us a brain so we would be able to make decisions and a heart so we can choose the right decisions. It all is “hand in hand” and I know I don’t want to make any life damaging decisions, and if I were to let my heart guide me without using my common sense I would be real screwed up.Sorry for not having a strait answer, I just don’t think there are any strait answers when a topic like this occurs.
