Memberwhen I go to yahoo.com and then press the pc messenger download it says error #26. then it says press yes if you want to get redirected to another download site. I was able to download after I was redirected but it is an older version of messenger. then when I try to sign in with that one it says that version isnt supported anymore.??

ParticipantHave you tried Yahoo’s manual download?

MemberYeah, try the manual download. If that doesn’t work, the “hacker” may have fooled around with you’re registry. Get RegClean ( http://www.techtv.com ) and clean that registry. 😉

MemberIf you uninstalled yahoo! messenger and reinstalled it, there shouldn’t be any problems. I don’t understand why it would redirect you. http://messenger.yahoo.com/ will give you the latest version of messenger which is 5.6 but the manuel d/l will also work. Try creating a new screenname. When you log on to a screen name and it all the sudden asks you to log in as if you are not connected, then somebody booted you. If it happens everytime, they probably have you on Auto-kill and it will boot you everytime you login. If you had a screen name you could report them to Yahoo! and they’d lock thier account. I haven’t a clue as to how they got your ip if you didn’t click on a link and if you weren’t in a private conversation with a person. If you are in a private message with another person, they can easily get your ip if you are connected with a mic, cam, or file transfer, or if you click on a link. Its different in a chat room though. If you are using messenger to log into chat, there is an alternative way to chat without messenger http://chat.yahoo.com/. Hope that’s useful.

MemberErm, to clear a few things up that I’ve read there is one other way to get someones IP address in Y!Chat, and it’s fairly simple, all the person needed to do was connect to the chat room though a telnet client…not many people know how to do this anymore but telnet used to be the most secure way to chat on Y!IM and anyone who’s been on yahoo more then 6 years would remember it. Yahelite has an option for a proxy server, if your worryed about getting Hacked on yahoo you should use it and insert a proxy

MemberYou know what? That same problem is happening to me. I was having problems with messenger so I decided to uninstall it and reinstall the 5.6 version. The message appears: Trouble Communicating- “An error occured while trying to connect to the server. (Error -26) This could occur if you do not have an active connection to the internet or your proxy server settings are not valid. You may be able to install by downloading the alternative Yahoo! Messenger installation from:
http://download.yahoo.com/dl/installs/ymsgr/ymsgins.exeThe installation is approximately 2.5 MB in size. Click ‘Yes’ to try this now or click ‘No’ to exit. ” Then when trying to open messenger and logging on in says: “System: You are using an older version of Yahoo! Messenger that is no longer supported. Please upgrade by downloading the newest version by going to:http://messenger.yahoo.com/” Maybe with these more specific details, someone could help out. Thx.March 16, 2004 at 9:35 am #48560oxo_psycho_oxo
Memberok, I got a version that works! Here: http://messenger.yahoo.com/intl/in/download/dinstructions.html
Click Download. And its version 5.6.0.1358. For some reason when you go through the other way that I suggested, it doesn’t work. I don’t know why. BUT THIS WORKS!! I uninstalled yahoo through add/remove programs, and then searched my c:/ drive for yahoo and deleted everything else that wasn’t eraced. You will be downloading a file named: ymsgrin.exe YAY! 😀 -
