MemberHey everyone,
I was wondering if someone could help me please.
I’ve got a friend who is currently using Windows Xp. Since the weekend its coming up saying that the version of Windows XP is no longer up to date.
Everytime my friends tries to install the updates that are available, she can’t install it.
The last time we installed Service Pack 2 onto the pc, it didn’t like it and she couldn’t get access to the internet I think.
Can anyone please advise me what we can do.
Thanks in advance
Lesley

MemberYou’ve got 2 options:
1. Ignore the updates. They usually aren’t important. I live without them, and my computer runs fine.
2. Find out what exactly happens when she tries to update and what happens when it errors out.June 8, 2006 at 5:42 am #145948leskw06
MemberHi,
I believe the updates are Service Pack 2 and everything else.
Will find out what happens then let u know.
Thanks in advance

Will try installing the Service Pk 3 wi the office disk it requires and hopefully everything will b ok.

MemberThe windows Firewall is probably in effect if your internet is dropping out after you install it.
But what the heck are you talking about?? Microsoft did not release a third service pack for Windows XP. Do not install that, it’s most likely NOT legit.
Computers can run fine without updates or service packs, I wouldn’t hold your breath over it, honestly.

Hi Spike,
It was coming up as Service Pack 3 when I clicked on the automatic updates that are available to install, and even when I go onto the update website it was coming up there.
Will certainly take ur advice and not install it as I’ve just checked myself on my computer and I haven’t got it.
The only prob my friend has everytime she’s on the pc its coming up saying that her windows xp isn’t geniune when it is as she bought her pc a few years ago from Tiny pc. The only way I can think of resolving it is my installing Service Pack 2.
Thanks again for ur help

ParticipantWell, Microsoft recently had a lot of us as guinia pigs for their new Windows Validation thingy, it’s to prevent piracy, however it’s still in beta. I’d almost wonder as to if your friend happend to get that in an update which may in fact cause a problem like that. They really shouldn’t have released this in beta to unsuspecting people.
