I run WinXP Home, and a little while ago, and apparently all of a sudden, my XP Style Windows/menus disappeared. Just see for yourselves:
As you can see, my Windows XP Style just disappeared. And before that, at random times, when I was running XP style, I would encounter the blue ‘Please Wait…’ box that XP gives. Then it would revert back to Classic. I have searched Microsoft’s Database on this and nothing came up. If anyone has heard of a fix or some suggestions, let me know. Thanks!September 7, 2004 at 11:03 pm #38631DavidParticipantCheck that you have the themes service enabled.
Start > Run > CMD > “net start themes” (Without quotes)
September 7, 2004 at 11:13 pm #38637SpikeMemberWell, when I ran it, it gave a response, but there’s still no XP theme. Good try though, I would have never thought of that.
September 7, 2004 at 11:31 pm #38632DavidParticipant‘A response’? What was the ‘response’?
September 7, 2004 at 11:33 pm #38638SpikeMemberOh, by that, I meant that when I ran it from the Run… Menu, an MS-DOS window popped up for about four seconds, then disappeared. Then nothing. So I checked my Display Properties, and still nothing.

You did it wrong then.
Follow me:
Start > Run
cmd
net start themesNow what does it say?
September 7, 2004 at 11:59 pm #38639SpikeMemberSorry, Dave, someone beat you to it. Here is the solution to my problem.
Go to Start > Run > Type “services.msc” without the quotes.
Scroll down until you see the Themes setting. Right-click on it. Hit Start. If Start is disabled, right-click and hit Proplerties, then at the drop-down menu that appears, change it to Automatic. Then, right-clikc again, and hit Start. If this does not solve the problem, I apologize. MODERATORS: I believe if I am not mistaken, you can close this topic now that it has been solved.
Special thanks to someguy03 for aiding in the solving of this problem. (A lot.) 😉

I’m confused. Aren’t you the one with the problem? Did it work or not?
September 8, 2004 at 12:11 am #38635Someguy03MemberHah, ya, it worked for him. If anyone want’s, they can follow Dave’s instructions, which do exactly what I told spike223 to do, only are much easier / faster.

Yes, I gave you the shortened version, the one that was much easier to follow. =)
September 8, 2004 at 1:16 am #38640SpikeMemberOh well, either way, it solves the problem.
