MemberI am asking for a friend of mine. He has Windows Vista and Yahoo Messy 7.5.
He says he can play cd’s, video’s etc and have no problem with his sound as he is hearing them, loud and clear.
He says the problem he is having is when he goes into a Yahoo chat room. Then he has no sound and no microphone for others to hear him.
I had no clue what Vista was until I did a search. I’ve tried to help him all I could think of, but apparently I didn’t help him much and now I have run out of ideas.
I asked him to join BBB, and as far as I know, he did, but he didn’t post his problem, so thought I would and maybe one of you wonderful people could offer a suggestion to try.
I will send him the link and let him read your posts and possibly he’ll finally reply. Thanks so much.

ParticipantHas he got a vista compatible driver for his soundcard/sound chip?
His brand may not be yet supported and thats a downfall of using a beta Operating system.
Tell them to check with his manufacturers site for specific vista drivers.

MemberThank you Dermot. I have let him know what you suggested (via sending him the URL of this thread) Hopefully he’ll let us know how he made out.
Thanks again.
Says he just checked the site and had no luck. Would another sound card help (watching what he gets of course) or is he up a creek ?? lol
Thanks for helping guys.

ParticipantIf the new soundcard is fully supported by Vista
i can’t see why he would have an issue.

MemberJust to give you an update Dermot …
My friend said he checked the site but it doesn’t list any sound cards that would be compatible with Vista. I can only assume because Vista is fairly new.
It has been suggested by another user that it is the YACS DLL. Something about the audio compression, which is something I am not very familiar with at all.
But shall I keep you posted ?? For your info and anybody else with this problem ??

ParticipantWhat i would imagine the issue is perhaps the codec yahoo! uses which is old is not compatible.
however not been a vista user i’m not sure if that is the case.
Tell them to check and see if DSP truspeech is supported in vista.

MemberWell to be honest I have tried Vista, but I opted not to use it further. I have a lot of crashes (Media Player crashing while playing music!). Vista is still on the beta stage, so he might be experiencing incompatibility issues with the OS and application.

MemberUpdate. My friend finally did get an answer to his dilemma. And you are right miGs. Yahoo messenger and Vista are not compatible at this time.
It wasn’t Yahoo that answered him, or even Microsoft. It was a high school student that was able to hook up a gadget of some sort to his computer to figure it out. She also said that he didn’t get an answer from Yahoo or Microsoft because neither one knew it. She basically told him that he (and other vista/yahoo messy users) will have to wait until the two of those ‘giants’ join forces to solve the problem.
So he has gone back to XP and is happy he can now chat ‘with sound’ when with his friends/family.
Thank you Dermot and miGs for your feedback and valuable help. Helped him get things figured out.
