I can’t see any voice/talk button on the Mac side. Am I missing something? Thanks. – Paul

MemberThe next time my brother-in-law is online I’ll test this with him. The Mac they have is somewhat old…so I am pretty sure it should work with yours. He may also have an older version of Yahoo!, in which case things might have changed. I’ll let you know as soon as I find out. I should see him online sometime this weekend. (I cannot be 100% sure since we’re on different continents…europeans sleep at such odd times… lol). At any rate I’ll keep you posted 😀

MemberHi, I’m having the same problem. My father has a Mac and I’m on a PC. He has broadband and i’m on dial up. We’ve tried all the free IM services. Yahoo is the one we’ve gotten furthest on, at least we can see each other. On AIM which is supposed to be compatible for audio between pc and mac we don’t even get as far as seeing each other. Buried deep in the help pages of yahoo messenger it does say that they don’t support audio between mac and pc. If you know a way around it I’d love to hear it

If you know a way around it I’d love to hear itYahoo uses DSP Group’s TrueSpeech codec for the audio, which isn’t compatible with the Mac.
People have managed to get partial usability under Linux, but that requires using the codec with Wine…which is an implementation of the Windows API on Linux. It only works on X86 based machines.
Your best bet is to use Apple’s iChat AV and the latest version of the Windows AIM client. I’ve been doing this with Panther and XP Pro/2KPro for about a year, no issues.

MemberYou can give it up. There is absolutely no voice on the Mac version of Yahoo Messenger. This has nothing to do with Mac-to-Windows. It has to do with there is no voice on the Mac version period.
