This is a post consisting of the most common bugs with Yahoo! Messenger. If anyone wishes to report a bug to us, please post here. =)
- Chat word censor is always on, regardless of setting the filter setting to ‘None’.
Workaround: At the current time, you can turn it off for only the session (meaning once you exit it, it resets). You can navigate to your C:Program FilesYahoo!Messenger directory, and open filter1.enc in Notepad and remove everything inside and save it.
- When minimizing a chat window to the taskbar, the window doesn’t ‘flash’ when receiving new chat messages.
Workaround: Unfortunately, there is no current workaround for this.
- Yahoo! Messenger ignores (nearly) everyone in the chat room.
Workaround: This is because there is a bug in the ‘Ignore anyone who is not on my Messenger List’ feature. To correct this, go to the Yahoo! Preferences, then go to Ignore List, and select ‘Ignore only the people below:’. Yahoo is aware of this bug.
- Yahoo displays ‘You cannot ignore yourself’ message boxes when in a chat room.
Workaround: This is because somebody exceeds the flood tolerance in the chat room (posting a lot of messages). Normally Yahoo would automatically ignore the user, but a bug exists that Yahoo thinks you’re ignoring yourself (when you’re really not). No workaround.
- Some Yahoo windows appear messed or or garbled.
Workaround: This is because of bugs in Yahoo’s skinning engine. There currently is no fix for this.
- When in a chat room on voice, my window and voice chat freezes up.
Workaround: This is because of an exploit in the file yacscom.dll (voice lagged). There is no current fix for this unfortunately.
- Script errors in (insert plugin here).
Workaround:For example if you use the iTunes plugin, and exit iTunes all the sudden, you may receive a script error. There is currently no fix for this.
- Strange people ‘sign in’ whom are not on your buddy list (ghost logins issue).
Workaround:This is possibly due to the YMSG15 protocol. No workaround. Yahoo is aware of this issue.
Note: YTK Pro/Lite fixes the following bugs: the ignore yourself bug, and the ghost logins issue.
February 24, 2007 at 1:58 pm #158497Jeff HesterKeymaster- Chat room Voice chat Error “Audio Mixer can not be Intialized”
Workaround: This is caused if you have a High Definition audio card. Voice should still work just close the error messege.
- Chat rooms Voice chat and Voice Conference does not work on Windows Vista.
Workaround: There is no workaround. Yahoo is aware of the bug.
- Can’t enter the Chat rooms ChatterBox, ShowBiz Central, and The Press Box under the Voice Chat category, Error message “Create Room”
Workaround: There is no workaround. Yahoo is aware of the bug.
- Voice Chat turns on everytime you enter or change a chat room.
Workaround: You can turn Voice chat off with the program here
Other
- Not being able to add photos to your profile.
Workaround: When you try to add a photo and it brings you to the old photos (photos.yahoo.com) Create an account with photos, Then try to add a photo to your profile again. When you try to add a photo and it brings you to the new photos (new.photos.yahoo.com) There is nothing you can do.
The following Attachment Disables the Word Filter. As talked about below.

Another workaround: Close YM completely, open your registry editor (regedit or other), do a Find for the term wordfilter as it relates to YM, change its setting from 1 to 0, (this may appear twice for Messenger, but only one of the entries will be set to 1), close the registry editor. The word filter, if set to None, should now work properly until YM is ever reinstalled on the PC.
Important: The usual disclaimers, caveats, and cautions apply to manually editing the registry. Backup your registry prior to doing the above fix. Rule of thumb: If you don’t know how to backup your registry, then don’t attempt to change it.

November 16, 2007 at 5:36 pm #158502__GHOST__MemberThe voice lagger problem has been around for as long as I can remember. It seems like Yahoo could find some kind of solution or workaround for that problem. Voice lagging/freezing is a problem that has existed with YM for YEARS!
The dumbest thing Yahoo ever did was to do away with Java chat protocol, which was the most secure protocol it ever has had.

Voice lagging/freezing is a problem that has existed with YM for YEARS!The problem is relatively easy to fix but Yahoo! would rather not implement a fix because of extra overhead on their servers (for validating the RTP voice packets). If they were smart they’d fix it at the client-level (inside of yacscom.dll) and validate RTP sequence numbers and timestamps in the RTP packet headers. These two header fields are what’s causing voice lags to “freeze” you (which in technical terms is known as resource exhaustion).
We, at YTK Pro : #1 Yahoo! Messenger Integrated Companion, were the first to correct this issue with 100% success (in VC Sync) and without having to drop/block a single voice packet. Surely if we can do it then they can too. Yahoo!’s got many times more resources than we’ve got since it’s just us 2 developers involved with YTK Pro and VC Sync.
