MemberFrankly, I think if Yahoo Messenger itself included viruses, it would have been uncovered long before now.
Have you asked your brother to do a full system scan with any virus checker, and also to scan his PC for Adware and Spyware.
Like I said earlier, Yahoo Messenger definately does not include viruses. I can’t put it any clearer.

MemberQuote:quote: …I LIVE on yahoo/magic messangerWhat exactly is “magic” MESSENGER? If you mean that you use magic PS that’s where the viruses and such are coming from… Yahoo! would no longer exist as a multi-national multi-million dollar coporation if they spread viruses. MB is completely right, Yahoo! has no viruses “built-in.” If you download a third party from a bad site….that’s something else…a lot of third party messengers are fine…but SOME people who host them are not…but that has NOTHING to do with Yahoo!

MemberOh, they exist alright. I’ll edit this post in a few minutes with some links from Symantec with information on the mentioned viruses, hopefully with removeal instructions. Give me a few mins.
Bagle (Please note, on this one, I couldn’t find the one you specified, this links to the closest match.
In fact, they are the only two I can find on Symantec, you might want to check the spellings of the viruses you mentioned, they have to be right.

MemberI think you also need to establish how these viruses got onto the system on the first place. Just because the viruses are removed, the vulnarabilities which they exploited may still be there.
I’d advise setting up a firewall (I know you already said he runs one, but here are some suggestions). You can get some good free ones out there. Search http://www.download.com for ZoneAlarm and Sygate Personal Firewall.
Also, you said he used an antivirus program? Which one, and are the definitions up to date? If not, i’d advise updating them.

MemberUsing Yahoo messenger does not give you viruses, trojans or other nasties. You get those things by clicking links in chat or in IMs. There are trojans/viruses like Aplore that seek to spread themselves via messenger. When an infected user PMs someone, a link is included in the first message. If you click the link you risk infection.
It is a good idea never to click links just because someone sends them to you or they are posted in chat! People infected with APLORE might not even know they are sending links, unlike some bots that purposely post links to sites where spyware and dialers are auto-installed.

https://bigblueball.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7457He is talking about magic login for Yahoo, not magic PS… They are two different programs. Magic Login is a polygamy patch for yahoo that allows you to open more than 1 instance of yahoo messenger at a time, Magic PS is a trojan that someone uses to try to steal your password. I tried a google search for “Yahoo magic login” and got a bunch of sites written in Arabic… which I’m not about to download anything from when I can’t read it. So I can’t say it is safe, just that it is different from the trojan you are talking about.
Shinobi, if you are not sure about the safety of your Magic Yahoo, you could try Y! Multi Gold, that one is safe. What version of Yahoo messenger do you use? Also do you remember where you got the Magic Yahoo from?
