MemberHi,
Firstly lemme thank & congratulate all u wonderfull people form making this such a usefull & successfull forum.
I have been facing problem with my yahoo messenger fron past few days. i have a LAN of 11 computers. since last 10 days in all the PC’s, yahoo messenger closes as soon as i enter the username & the password & click on login. i tried updating & reinstalling yahoo, running the recovery on my systems but nothing seems to help. once i ran the recovery on all my 11 pcs on the LAN at once, yahoo messenger worked perfectly fine for almost 3 to 4 hours , but it soon got back to the earlier state.yahoo messenger window just vanishes as soon i fill in the username & passwords & click on login.
can anyone plz help me, i need to set it right as soon as possible.Thank u in advance

ParticipantHello and welcome to BBB! I don’t know anything about LAN’s really, but I do know a couple of forum members with similar login problems have been helped by doing complete virus and spyware scans with up to date definitions on their machine. I don’t know if that will help at all but I thought I’d toss it out there for consideration.

ParticipantWell remember, messenger programs are browser related. It might not be a “virus” per se, but could be spyware related, or even a browser hi-jacker. I typically don’t trust programs that scan for virus and spyware all in one.
While Nod32 looks quite good from a virus perspective, do you have a standalone program (preferabley 2 of them) you can use to scan the machines for spyware (with current definitions) and is there the possibility of running HiJack This on your system or each machine?
If it worked well for a bit after restore and then started acting up again, it would seem “something” is working it’s way through the system. But remember, a restore with spyware or a virus that’s quarantined will just put it back again. So it’s more important that ever to find the culprit before it gets out of hand.
I apologize for not knowing more about LAN’s. I’m not sure how easily either of these is accomplished. I’m happy to help with HiJack logs if need be, but I suspect you’re probably familiar with reading them if you have this many machines you’re responsible for. Let me know you’re thoughts and perhaps someone more familiar with your particular situation will have some ideas on how to narrow down where to find the bugger that’s doing this to your system!
Good luck and I’ll wait to hear.

MemberWhat version of Yahoo! Messenger are you using, and what operating system are you using? Also, do you have a firewall? If so, what?

ParticipantIt would seem to me that you’re attempting to log in many yahoo messenger accounts from the same ip and yahoo is crashing on what it recieves back from he server.
Try using a third party alternative with better debugging and check the return, see if a program like pidgin (Home | Pidgin) logs in fine.
It will at least give you a indication that it is indeed the official messengers fault not the lan connections fault.

MemberThanks for ur valuable suggestions & i am sorry i was on a vacation so i could’nt keep the track of the issue here. As Doris said i ran a HiJack scan on my system & am pasting the log here. & dear Dermot i suspect it to be a notorious virus than any IP conflict issues b’coz multiple log-ins on a single pc can be done with yahoo messenger using a plugin called yahoo multimessenger & i used to simultaneously use yahoo MESSENGER on all the pcs in my LAN before. I updated my yahoo too but , the problem still exists. AFTER I ENTER THE ID & PASSWORD THE MOMENT I HIT ON THE LOGIN BUTON THE ENTIRE YAHOO MESSENGER WINDOW VANISHES, EVEN FROM THE SYSTEM TRAY.
I have a attached the scan log from HiJack on one of the pc here
And lemme thank all u ppl again for keeping intrest in my problem.

ParticipantFirst and foremost, please allow HiJackThis to backup before making any changes. I’m not an expert, and I’ve never had anyone with any trouble from using HiJack to fix things, but it’s always better to be safe and have a fallback in case anything does not work as expected. That said…
Please take a look at the following on your log:
R0 – HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain,Start Page = about:blank
** If this is not the start page you would expect to see check the box to remove.
O2 – BHO: (no name) – {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} – (no file)
** While this does come up as related to Windows Live Call, I am always suspect of entries with (no name) (no file) You may wish to remove this – it’s up to you.
O17 – HKLMSystemCCSServicesTcpip..{A09DF0D7-2053-4BAD-B9E3-6DF150C917F8}: NameServer = 192.168.1.1
** If this isn’t your IP and/or ISP you’ll want to remove thisOtherwise, your HiJack is amazingly short. While your Anti-Virus may be up to date I might suggest an online virus scan (one possible source is trend micro house call) just as a double check. You could use any other online scanner of your choosing. It’s a good idea to check at least one possibly 2 or 3 of them since different ones may pick up different things.
I’d also run at least 2 separate spyware programs such as Ad-Aware or Spybot on your system to check for spyware in addition to your standard scan. Again, different programs will provide many different results and the more you can remove the more likely we are to find the source of the problem.
Let me know how this goes.

MemberI also noticed the following line in the short HiJack list:
O4 – HKCU..Run: [amva] C:WINDOWSsystem32amvo.exeamvo.exe is a Trojan/Backdoor, so I would also suggest to do the following:
Open HijackThis, click do a system scan only and checkmark this:
O4 – HKCU..Run: [amva] C:WINDOWSsystem32amvo.exe
Close all windows including browser and press fix checked.
Reboot computer
Delete if present:
C:WINDOWSsystem32amvo.exe
(might be a hidden file, i assume you know how to get them to show)
Empty Recycle Bin.Hope this helps a little bit too.

ParticipantO17 – HKLMSystemCCSServicesTcpip..{A09DF0D7-2053-4BAD-B9E3-6DF150C917F8}: NameServer = 192.168.1.1
is the network address to his router and nothing malicious
