MemberI am using the latest beta version and whenever I am playing yahoo pool with a contact (in the chat box) and use the minimize button, yahoo crashes. When I send an error report to microsoft it says that yahoo is aware of the problem and has no solution at this time. What’s up people, your thoughts. Any fix out there?

Memberwell i figured out what the culprit was………. the latest update to java 🙁 When you install this update, it takes over !!! and you better have something better than a OLD pentium III !!! Oh well, live and learn…and get out the checkbook!!!!!!!!

MemberYes indeed KK – the info in there is most interesting to me too.
Thank you for those posts. 🙂May I ask the RAM size on your Pent III ?
I also use Ypool and (voice!) chat often, but have never had or heard of that specific problem. It’s a bit frightening to think that some YM common glitches MAY be simply due to low processing power. How can one ever start to get a handle on them, comparing what happens for different people and trying to find common factors, if THAT wildcard is gonna be in the mix ?
And whatever happened to the simple ol’ “out of memory”, or “disk full” type messages ?
(“YPager has encountered an error and needs to close” – well, THANK YOU Mr. Yahoo, for being so helpful and informative ! 😡 )March 9, 2006 at 2:58 am #139557bluecarnation200
MemberJust a comment. Not a fix…. 😀 My son runs on a 733 pentium III. He doesn’t have a problem shooting pool and voice chatting. (Although he only chats with Eagle and I when we are shooting)
He has 384 megs of ram.
Maybe it is the amount of ram you have KK.Blue

MemberAgain, the culprit was that darn UPDATE to the JAVA !!!!!!!!! it’s update 6 that makes for smoother yahool pool shooting but……….try to minimize the screen (when you are playing pool from within the message box and NOT in a room) and the system goes to “NOT RESPONDING” read: crash! I am not getting this probelm using WINDOWS “Virtual Machine” and Java “5”. When I install the latest update to JAVA………..bingo! I have 256 k of ram with an old pentium III. Oh by the way, a nice fresh completely defragged windows XP operating system was used. Still………….crash! No Java 6, no problems. But, that windows virtual machine and the “rollback” (we’ll call it) version of Java makes for much less, read: jerky pool playing. I am looking forward to getting a real processor (dual core?) and a real power supply so I can use the latest version of java and play yahoo pool with smooth action. Guess I’ll hafta get out the checkbook.

MemberI think, for balance, you shouldn’t necessarily “blame” SUN, but perhaps blame YAHOO !?
Undoubtedly some Yahoo facilities run better with MS Java than with Sun Java. (In fact in Yahoo Groups the voice doesn’t work at all under Sun, and NEEDS MS!).
The obvious inference is Sun has bugs.BUT, like it or not, Sun IS the standard these days, having officially superseded MS according to the courts, so it’s up to developers to make their products compatible with Sun. If/when they don’t, that’s got to be THEIR problem, not Sun’s.
