Can anyone recommend an alternative to Yahoo Messenger that will allow me to send and recieve private IMs when I am in a chat room? I tried alot of those Yahoo chat programs, but they all appear to be for chatting inside chat rooms and I didn’t seem to get any PMs directly.
I was going to try Trillian, but I see from the Trillian section that only their pay version can be used for Yahoo chat rooms.. Is this correct?
It would also be nice if the program in question let you recieve and save offline IMs. Lastly, it would be real cool if it let you ignore more than the 99 users than Yahoo IM allows.

Hey Paladin,
I’m don’t know about the free Trillian versions, but the Pro version allows chatting in rooms as well as sending and recieving private messages and using the webcam services. Offline messages are recieved too.
As to the features you mentioned (enlarged iggy bin etc): Have you tried Y!Tunnel? It provides you with an umlimited iggy bin and lots of chat features, including bootcode filtering and blocking unwanted add requests.
I’m using it myself and it really works great with YMessenger.:)about ignoring people in yahoo messenger and correct me if I am wrong, but doesn’t it have option to ignore anyone who is no on your messenger friends list. if that is checked would that not be an option that would go beyond 99 and I do not know but something you may want to check out is that if the option is indeed checked in your preferences could that not explain why your not getting your IM’s – just something to think about as I gave up chatting in 1999 when it seem like 50 people in a room and no one was chatting in nearly every room I went in.
Hey William, Thanks for the response. Actually I don’t want to use the option to block anyone not on my friends list. I just have blocked 99 troublemakers so far and I would like to be able to block more.. 🙁
The chat programs that I tried were YahEH & YahELiteFull. They worked great for bringing up the chat rooms and chatting, but I wasn’t getting any PMs. Perhaps I will try to use them again and see if there is a setting I can change to allow PMs..

Does the free version of Y!Tunnel have the unlimited iggy bin or only the pay version? I prefer to use free software whenever possible. 😮

Besides, a valid key for the program is only $17 and it is good for the lifetime of the program, it’s well worth the purchase. Also, the pirated versions come with problems.
