Well bots are always being created and if one gets deleted 10 could replace it easily. The only way to stop this would be to require people to show more proof of identity when they register for an account, which isn’t going to happen anytime soon, since people wouldn’t go for it and Yahoo! would lose out on potential users. So it’s probably not worth it to them to stop bots.
December 22, 2006 at 12:43 am #136259NessaParticipantNope! Bot creation is a Terms of Service violation. Although that doesn’t discourage people from doing it.
December 22, 2006 at 12:46 am #136258NessaParticipantIt really depends on the Terms of Service violation. If the complaint is found to be true and severe enough, Yahoo! will delete the violating user’s ID.
December 22, 2006 at 12:50 am #136257NessaParticipantI am 99.9% sure it will never become a pay service as Yahoo! would lose ALOT of users. Of course, they have every right to do so, but the chances are slim to none, especially since they already have ads everywhere.
This goes along with any IM’s you may have received saying Yahoo! is shutting down accounts that don’t foward the message. (Or that they will start charging you a fee.) Wrong! Don’t believe and don’t foward these messages. You help reduce the amount of endless spam/spim that is already circulating around the internet. 🙂
December 23, 2006 at 1:28 am #136264NessaParticipantAs you may have noticed, there’s no longer a Super Webcam button in Yahoo! Messenger. It’s not that yahoo had taken this feature away or that you’ve lost functionality, but rather that yahoo made upgrades so this enhanced connection is now available to all users. Hence, no need to choose it – it’s always on for you.
You can control the frame rate a little with the slide bar in webcam preferences, move the slide between faster speed and better quality.
Frame rate estimates:
Best Quality – 1 frame a second
Faster Speed – 3 frames a second
Small Cam – 5 frames a secondThanks to Cchris78 for this and for more information read this thread, HERE.
December 23, 2006 at 1:29 am #136265NessaParticipantYahoo! has disabled the chat room Goto/Follow commands due to privacy issues.
Thanks to Cchris78 for this.
December 24, 2006 at 7:39 pm #136266NessaParticipantNO, if they are using a newer Yahoo! Messenger, you will always show up as “Add request pending” on their buddylist so they will not know when you’re online and won’t be able to view your status messages. (But with an older version of Yahoo! Messenger, and some third party Messengers, they will be able to see you as online and they will be able to see your status messages.)
March 11, 2007 at 6:17 am #136252DermotParticipantAs of this post the answer is YES
Automatic way to fix…
Download Vista Voice Fix and follow onscreen instructions.
Manual Fix below…
Please note: You should run the following installers as administrator
To use Yahoo! Voice Chat in vista you must have the following.
DSP group Truspeech Codec – Download it here!
Yahoo! Messenger 8.1.0.416 and above! (8.1.0.421 is recommended)
Download Yahoo Messenger 8.1.0.421
Once both are installed as administrator you should have voice chat access!
Also note you may be required for your mic to be inserted for initialisation
For 3rd Party Chat Clients (YahELite, Yazak, Y!mLite, etc.)
1) Exit out of the chat client(s) you’re currently using completely.
Depending on if you already have the TrueSpeech codec installed or not, do one of the following:
2a) If you don’t have the TrueSpeech codec installed, download this file and save it to the desktop when it prompts.
2b) If you already have the TrueSpeech codec installed, download the this file and save it to the desktop when it prompts.
3) Right click on the downloaded VistaVoiceFix.exe file (or the VistaVoice_dll.exe file if you already had the TrueSpeech codec installed), and select Run as Administrator and install it (follow the instructions and select Yes or Ok for everything it prompts).
4) Start up your chat client(s), go to a chat room, and attempt to gain voice chat. If you appear connected, SUCCESS!!!!
April 20, 2008 at 3:16 pm #136253DermotParticipantCan’t see you own text or anybody else in Chat or IM ?
This could be caused by a scripting issue.
Close Yahoo! Messenger and all IE (internet explorer) windows
When you send or receive an instant message and no message appears, you probably have scripting disabled in your Internet Explorer.
To enable scripting:
1. Click the “Tools” menu on your Internet Explorer toolbar and select “Internet Options.”
2. Click the “Security” tab.
3. Click the Internet (globe) icon and click the “Custom Level” button.
4. Scroll down to “Scripting.”
5. Enable the following:
* Active scripting
* Allow paste operations via script
* Scripting of Java applets are all enabled
6. Click the “OK” button at the bottom of the window.Note: Restart Yahoo! Messenger and you should start seeing text in your IM windows again.
If this does not work please try the following
go to Start – then Run – then type regsvr32 jscript.dll – then press OK
then
go to Start – then Run – then type regsvr32 vbscript.dll – then press OK
This should fix the issue.
if you still have issues you can try this user submitted fix by stupidisasstupiddoes
Quote:The easiest way to clear up this is to goto microsoft and download the latest version of scripting. Which is currently script 5.7 which is currently what is included with Windows Vista. Windows XP originally came with 5.6 . If you are running Windows 98, Microsoft took down the script download. You will have to try to find a copy of script 5.6 from another source.Once you download it, the installer package will update your script files and register them. If you are running Vista you will may have to turn off your USERS ACCOUNT’s Control off in order to keep Vista from blocking any changes to your dll’s.
For XP ver 5.7 Download details: Windows Script 5.7 for Windows XP
Method B
Open the registry Key HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInternet SettingsZones
You will see this…
You will see the invalid node [] (could also be a L or something else) at the top!
You need only close messenger, delete that single out of place node then restart messenger.
You should always have 0,1,2,3,4 nodes intact.
These hold all your IE browser settings for surfing and local browser controls, like the IE browser control used in chat clients including the chatscreen and pm windows of yahoo messenger.
April 20, 2008 at 3:41 pm #136254DermotParticipantWordfilter not turning off?
Workaround: At the current time, you can turn it off for only the session (meaning once you exit it, it resets). You can navigate to your C:Program FilesYahoo!Messenger directory, and open filter1.enc in Notepad and remove everything inside and save it.
You can turn it off from your registry by going to the following key.
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareyahoopager
on the right you will see an entry called WordFilter
Right click it and pick Modify and change value to 0
This will disable Wordfilter.
I have also attached a Program to do this automatically for you, get it below!
April 20, 2008 at 3:48 pm #136255DermotParticipantYahoo! Messenger ignores (nearly) everyone in the chat room.
Workaround: This is because there is a bug in the ‘Ignore anyone who is not on my Messenger List’ feature. To correct this..
- Go to the Yahoo! Preferences
- Then go to Ignore List
- Select ‘Ignore only the people below:’
- Press Apply then ok
