Yahoo Messenger problem

Hi all
whilst downloading yahoo messenger I got a message saying .. problem communicating an error occured when trying to connect to the server . error 25. this could occur if you dont have an active connection to the internet or your proxy settings are not valid ? . well I am connected to the net i have disabled firewall and anti virus . any help please .. thanks in advance

Is the problem happening during the web installer? If so, use this full installer…

managed to install (thats a start) now it will not let me login tried all the settings , when i try to log in with no proxies it says cant connect , when i try to log in behind a firewall no proxies it just comes back to the sign in screen , thankyou very much for trying

ok not great at this .. cyberhawk just a basic freebee
and windows xp (i think)

And you disabled them? Did you do a clean install of Yahoo? Are you behind a router?

yep disabled both got rid of yahoo cleaned it out , now a router not too sure what that is sorry

It looks like something is blocking your connection to the Yahoo server. My guess would be a router (a router is a device you can hook up to a broadband connection, to ‘split’ the connection between computers. In my case, it’s a blue box). They usually have built-in firewalls.

Ring you ISP on instruction on port forwarding and port triggering on your type of router and tell them about your connectivity issue.

thanks for your help dermot , and out of interest would that mean everyone on talktalk broadband would have the same problem ?

hi again
dont know if this will help , downloaded msn messenger , its telling me my gateway appears to be offline giving me a code 80072efd

Try hitting the repair button. Do you have MSN Messenger, or Windows Live Messenger. I suspect your connection is blocking access.

P.S. You should post this topic in the MSN Messenger section of the forums. =)

ok just thought someone might see or understand the problem its obviously not just yahoo its affecting msn as well . i had msn messenger and could log on downloaded live messenger then couldn,t log on

Wel most routers nowadays come with a rule allowed for most popular instant messenger programs.

But since routers vary as much as ISP’s do, it’s hard to say if everybody with a broadband connection would have similar issues.

You could try going into your routers settings via your browser and turn the hardware firewall off to check and see if they login.

how to get to your settings is another matter as routers vary on this also.

also check under IE (internet explorer) and go to file and make sure work offline is not ticked.

and that your system clock is correct.
