MemberHi everyone!
I got a problem in Yahoo Messenger. Please help me.
I was using YM 9 and recently installed SweetIM and using regularly to send Emoticons. But, it is usually hanging the system and I used to restart everytime.
Then, I uninstalled SweetIM. But the same problem. Then I uninstalled YM9 and after hair-pulling, installed YM 8.1.
But, now I am not able to Sign In Problem. I get the message about Firewall. I tried opening Firewall, but of no use.
I tried signing in with other Id. Then, I tried to open Mail and WebMessenger with the same Id. The Id works.
But, what should I do to use YM?? Right now I am using WebMessenger!!!
Please help me.TIA to all!

KeymasterI used the program before and I think it has malware like smileycentral does. This is a good tool: Malwarebytes.org. This program made a noticeable difference for me and caught some things that the other anti-malware couldn’t detect. I noticed an instant increase in speed after it found and deleted traces of malware deep in my registry. After you install this anti-malware tool, click update to update it and then do a full system scan. I’m pretty sure you will find and get rid of some nasties with this tool 😉
Also, go to the C:Program Files folder and delete the SweetIM folder if it is still there. You want to delete all traces of this SweetIM. I believe it integrated itself into Yahoo Messenger, like smileycentral does and you get that emoticon toolbar in there. If you must, type up SweetIM in your registry “find” feature and delete all entries associated with that program one by one until they are all gone. After you do everything else I mentioned before, of course.
I would do a complete uninstall of Yahoo Messenger first though before removing all traces of SweetIM and getting rid of the malware using that program I sent you in this post. But I guess the order doesn’t matter. Then re-install from scratch. That means removing Yahoo from add/remove programs and then deleting the folder after backing up archive messages on a flash drive if you save them. Then redownload Messenger from the website and once you sign in, reset your settings, including the archive setting to save all messages. If you don’t reset it to save all messages, it may be at its default setting of not saving your messages and when you go to copy your archives into your profile folder in the Yahoo folder and then sign out, the messages will be deleted. First sign in then switch the archive setting to save all message, then paste them. It is best to sign in first before copying the archives to the Yahoo archive folder because when you sign in, your archive folder is automatically created since your profile folder is automatically created that holds the archive folder; so you don’t have to create the folders manually and remember all the sub folder names in your Yahoo folder for your profile.

ParticipantI’m not sure about Yahoo Messenger, but in Windows Live Messenger, SweetIM can cause problems. I’d suspect the same for YH. You would do best not to add anything like SweetIM or SmileyCentral to any messenger program as they do indeed drop lots of crud on your system.
I agree that running Malwarebytes is a great idea. I’d also suggest Spybot and Ad-Aware. Then do a good cleanup of your temp/junk files and see if that helps.
To do a fairly thorough uninstall of programs I recommend RevoUninstaller. It works very well to remove leftover files and folders. Then a fresh install will likely go much more smoothly. Of course, when you re-install, please do it from the official site for the best possible results.

MemberHey All,
Yahoo Messenger had some issues concerning Y! 9 & Vista – but it seems to be resolved in their last version, so you upgrading your Yahoo Messenger might help.
By the way, SweetIM is completely safe and became a TRUSTe certified TRUSTe is an independent, privately held organization best known for its Web Privacy Seal. TRUSTe runs the world’s largest privacy seal program, with thousands of websites certified, including the major internet portals and leading brands.
SweetIM is fun, easy to use and most important – FREE and SAFE!!!

KeymasterWhat are the chances of someone naming themselves SweetIMer and their first post being here unless they read this topic and then made their name that way? 😀
SweetIM is not safe according to what I experienced. I remember having a problem with it but it was so long ago that I can’t remember the problem it caused. Maybe problems with my browser. It probably puts a toolbar and addon in IE or other browsers that causes problems. MSN Messenger plus used to have spyware too but it no longer does. This could be a similar situation, I guess, but don’t hold your breath.
I found out recently that my browser was not responding as much when I tried to close it. It also took about 3-5 seconds to close quite often. I realized it was an IE problem since windows didn’t share that problem. I tried to find the problem so I uninstalled IE by going to add remove programs to try and reinstall it but it uninistalled a part of IE only. It had no addons at that point running and I tested more and noticed it no longer was that slow. I closed the window many times and it was always fast. Then I put the addons back and it was slow again. So I disabled a few addons at a time to find out which one it could be, and then I suspected it was a browser object helper that was the culprit. It was also the one I saw in hijackthis. I disabled the MSN Messenger brower helper object and the problem was gone forever. Then I deleted the helper object. It is likely that many people here have MSN Messenger and that helper object in their browser. It should be removed if you notice the symptoms I described above.
I would get rid of SweetIM just to be safe. If you think it is safe, then it is your funeral if your computer starts acting up and people get your passwords from spyware on your computer (they use keylogger and can monitor every keystroke you type). Are you aware of that and how easy it is to get malware?
To make sure, scan your pc with multiple anti-malware programs. Even if it is safe, it might still cause unwanted behavior with Yahoo or Windows live, probably. It could be a huge system resource too and that would slow down your system or it might run when you don’t want it to spontaneously or not be compatible with certain other things on your system. You have been warned. Hopefully you’ll get lucky and it is actually safe now.
Also, just because they say it is safe and it has a seal doesn’t always make it true. Ever heard of gimmicks? Research it carefully and run multiple anti-malware programs to be sure. I use Norton, Windows Defender, hijackthis, sysclean, and malwarebytes. Make sure they are all updated too if you have any protection program like that. Do not run them at the same time though. Maybe sure only one at a time is in memory using your task manager after you end one and start another.
