I recently downloaded YM 9.0 it did not work on my PC. I then uninstalled and switch back to YM 8, I can instant message without any probs but I can no longer go to chat rooms.
The usual box pops up where you select the room to go to but no rooms appear. All that appears is the message ‘ getting chat categories’ and it stays like that.
Any ideas how to fix this?November 25, 2008 at 5:19 am #172298YahooliganMemberWhat operating system are you running? If it’s Vista, you might check out this news.

November 25, 2008 at 4:40 pm #172297imported_Ven0mMemberI was under the assumption that Yahoo dropped support for Win2k by now. There might be issues with getting chat categories on 8.x since Yahoo made changes to the chat servers and category list nearly 3 weeks ago.
November 25, 2008 at 6:27 pm #172300mmclean40MemberI was in the chat rooms just last week. All the problems started when I download YM 9. Messenger doesnt load any chat rooms whether I download 7 or 8….9 on the other hand has firewall issues.
November 26, 2008 at 3:16 am #172296NettiMemberThere was an issue when changing from 9.0 to 8.0. When you uninstalled 9.0, did you also remove the entire yahoo folder?
There is a folder that contains the rooms lists, and it could be picking up the old ones, or not updating them at all.
Try uninstalling 8.0, and make sure you use add/remove then delete the folder located in c:program filesyahoo folder. Restart computer, and try downloading again.
Also make sure you delete your cache and history in your browser.
