No, but they are partners with advertisers. Duh.
Advertisers will often use a cookie to figure out if you’ve already seen a certain ad, or what site you were on when the ad was displayed, etc. These cookies do not, in my opinion, constitute spyware! They do not contain any personal information about “you” (like name, password, address, etc.).
The other thing to keep in mind is that nearly EVERY big web site also uses some of these same ad networks (or their own proprietary network that does the same thing). AOL, MSN, Yahoo… they’re all doing the same thing. And don’t worry, they won’t find out about your undercover operations… oops!
Didn’t we have this debate before?? [:P]

I use it on Windows and on Linux.
On the net, I’ve also found a list of more than 10700 ad servers. I’ve included them in my guidescope to block them and I’m no more disturbed by cookies (I have the ability to chose whether I accept them or not) or ads !

I stopped using that dinosaur bout 4 years ago. Before I began to use Guidescope, I used tu add the ad servers in my “hosts” file (C:windowshosts, on my Win98SE ; /etc/hosts on my Linux Mandrake). And of course, the size of the file is quite important (more than 250 Ko).
With Guidescope, the file is called “block.ini” and lies beneath the guidescope’s install directory.
When Guidescope is installed and activated, whenever you go on the web with your favorite browser on a site that has those nasty flashing (sometimes, bgsounding) ads, it would replace them with a blank 1x1pixel GIF
If you combine Guidescope with the use of Mozilla browser witch has a feature to prevent unrequested pop up windows, then you’ll experience a genuine peaceful way of surfing the net. Believe me !
I don’t think that length of the block file has an influence on the speed of your computer. But blocking ads really accelerate your internet surfing !
