hey everybody,
i have a question about a yahoo profile. I checked the profile of somebody on my buddy list and got this error message:
Sorry, the page you requested was not found.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.Does that mean that the person has deleted his account? And if so, is it possible that he still can recieve emails sent to this account (bc i didnt get an error message when i did so)?
Thx in advance for your help 🙂December 28, 2005 at 1:50 pm #135223niq6566Memberoh comon, can nobody help me out? please?

From what you have said that account looks to have been deleted. If you delete your yahoo account ie IM name then you loose your email account as well.

Yes, i agree with Sarah it appears to be deleted, BUT there is a way to hide your profile to show that 404 Not Found error, even if the account still does exist. (I don’t know how so i can’t tell you how to do it, i just know it is possible.) I’ve been testing out to see if e-mailing a deleted account sends you a error message but so far nothing. (I’ll update this if it does do so.)Although thinking back, actual signs of deletion don’t start showing up until 90 days after the account has been deleted, only the profile will show it’s gone. So as of right now if it was recently deleted you can’t tell until those 90 days are up, because their profile might be showing the 404 error for other reasons. From personal experience when you instant message a deleted name, an error pops up saying that the id no longer exist or something along those lines. So try instant messaging the name sometimes and you are bound to get your answer. (But remember same goes here, if it was recently deleted you won’t get the error message, until after those 90 days are up and you message them, then you get the error message.) Hope this helps a bit.

February 9, 2006 at 10:59 am #135221Eagle_KiwiMemberHmmm, I just happened to read this thread… and I’m wondering !?
Seems to me that a year or 2 ago I’d get “404” when chasing someone’s Y!Profile maybe 1 time out of 20.
And often I’d simply try again, and many times on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th try it would suddenly “find” it.
And these were usually bona fide friends who I knew were real and alive. So – I’m wondering if THAT could be the answer to NIQ’s query ?
February 9, 2006 at 8:13 pm #135225niq6566Memberhey EAGLE, i know what you mean and it has occured to me before too. But in this specific case, the account was really deleted.
But thanks for your comments, this forum is really a big help for many issues 🙂February 11, 2006 at 1:24 pm #135217curtisg43228MemberYeah usually they are deleted but in some instances yahoo will only delete the profile not the account,I have one of my ID’s that has this problem..
March 3, 2006 at 9:03 pm #135226dulce75MemberA profile I’ve been checking (a friend’s) suddenly is showing up as a blank page. It used to alternate between a blank page and showing the profile…now I see nothing. Yet I don’t see a 404 error….does this mean he may have deleted his profile??
