MemberHey, does anyone know how you can find out if someone is using a Stealth Setting on you, i.e. Offline, Permanently Offline, etc.? I know of ways to find out if someone is invisible, but I’d like to know if someone is using the Stealth Settings to appear invisible to me? Please let me know, this is driving me absolutely crazy!

MemberCreate a new id or alias. Add that person to your list using the new id. If its invisible on both ids, its either offline or invisible but if its like visible for one id and invisible for other, it means either u have been ignored or on stealth list.. about finding out whether the person is online or offline, you can search here for a nice software created by unsakred, the BuddySpy.

MemberThanks! It’s funny you say that, because right after I posted my message, I tried that. I made up a different user id and I added him to my contact list. The message said that he was offline, but when I sent a test message, he replied and asked who I was because he didn’t recognize the id. My question is, when you add someone to messenger, does it always appear that they are offline after they have been added to someone’s list, or will it show that they are online if they truly are? It would appear as though he was in invisible mode, since he replied to the fake id, but I’m not too familiar with it to know. I guess I can assume he did not use a Stealth Setting on me since he appeared offline on my list, too.

MemberOh, one more thing. After I created the fake id and he wrote back saying he didn’t recognize it, even though he still appears on my contact list (and he didn’t add me to his list), will it still give me an accurate online status for him (i.e. online, offline, webcam, etc.)? Anyone know how that works? Can I keep logging in under the fake idea to see if he’s really on, or will it always appear as offline to me?

About whether you have to log into your fake id to see if he is really on, it depends on how much you want to know about his status and depends on whether he has really put you on permanent invisible or ignore in your original id.

MemberWould he be able to put me on permanent invisible if I was never added to his list? I was thinking he would’ve had to add me in order to do that?

He wouldn’t necessarily have to put you on permanent ignore if you’re not on his list. He could simply be doing what i do…I made a category of names of friends i want to be on-line to, so when i log on, i log on invisible mode then change the stealth settings to that one group, to “on-line”. ANYONE else would see me as being off-line. He could be doing this too, so there is no real way of knowing if you are on permanent invisible or he is using the technique i use.May 1, 2005 at 8:06 pm #120750Oreo

Thanks for that tip. (Even though it’s not what your post was about or the thread…it’s still good!! I had to say thanks! 🙂 )

MemberIf the user is appearing offline to you there are 3 possibilites:
1) He’s online and has blocked you , then you go to http://profiles.yahoo.com/ and if his status is online then it’s really so. You can send him messages , that he can read and he can reply to you too.
2) He’s online but is in invisible mode . This means that he has blocked everybody on his lists but he can manually unblock the people he wants to see him online as he really is. If in invisible mode http://profiles.yahoo.com/ will show him offline and the only way to check if he’s really online is to use Buddy Spy (which is not working for me , shows false statuses) or to start a voice conversation with him and if you get this message “Internal server error …” then he’s offline coz if he was on then the request would have completed as in invisible mode he can still recieve your messages and you his.
3) He’s online but has ignored you . This means that he has removed you from his contact list and doesn’t see your status as well as you his wether you have added him. All messages and requests between you has been banned. You can send him messages but he can’t read them and he can’t send you messages because you are in his ignore list. One “bug” in this is that the person who has ignored another can still send IMvironments or HTF messages to him through the address book. To check his real status see 1) and 2).
