Hey !
i have a problem with my y!m (version 9.0.0.2034). It sends buzzes and messages like “” to every contact in my list when i’m NOT logged in. I don’t know what to do …. i tried every possible antivirus…. and still it sends these buzzes. The thing is, that is nothing regular …. it happends once a week or twice a week … i can asure you that i didn’t revealed my password to anyone….that’s out of the question.
For example, today i was out ….. and while i was speaking with a friend on the phone , she told me that my ID was ONLINE
Anybody had this problem? can you help me out here ….i’m starting to have very angry “contacts” 🙂p.s. : sorry for the bad english 🙂
THANK YOU!!

If the problem continues you may have a keylogger on your machine that isn’t being cleaned by your scans/tools. If changing the password does not help, let me know and I’ll refer you to a forum where they can work with you to look for other infections that might not be found in regular scans.

May 21, 2009 at 4:45 pm #174784SolomonMemberYou are not alone. Over the last week I, too, have received half a dozen offline messages solely containing “” at my yahoo instant messenger account. I recognize each of the screen names as being former contacts on YIM whom I have not communicated with in years AND whom currently are not on my “friends” list. One such former contact has “” me three times. Is anyone aware of a possible virus targeting YIM applications that feature the symptom I describe here? Would uninstalling and reinstalling YIM stop my receiving “” messages? Since I am obviously not the only one receiving or sending spontaneous “” to random people (whom may or may not even currently be included on one’s “friends” list, I doubt uninstalling & re-installing OR changing a password will remedy this problem.

Uninstalling and reinstalling will not solve the problem. It has nothing to do with the program itself.
Changing your password will not change the problem unless you know your screen name is sending these messages. Changing the password is designed for the user who has an account that is being accessed from some other remote location without their approval.
From what I’ve seen in the threads, this is not a virus or malware that will be detected on a user’s machine. The problem is the user’s password is being used by a third party for malicious purposes. Passwords can be stolen any number of ways from malware to malicious websites posing as true sites.
