KeymasterWhat is your favorite instant messenger (of the “Big Four”)?
April 10, 2002 at 2:18 am #69095digitalant
MemberThis seems to have odd poll results (currently). From the facts more people are on AIM if I am correct, but people here prefer MSN. What is it about MSN that you like so much? Am I missing something here?
Thanks for your replies.

KeymasterWell for sure this is a highly unscientific poll. It’s not a random sampling of users. AOL and AIM appeal to people for one of two reasons: either ease of use (since they’re already AOL subscribers) or because all their friends are using it.
For whatever reason, this site attracted (at least for a time) a larger number of MSN Messenger users.
That said, MSN Messenger has enjoyed the highest growth rate of any of the big four in the past year or so, while AIM’s growth seems to have plateaued somewhat.
Personally, I run all of them, usually with Trillian (which lets me connect to all with one software client). If I had to choose my favorite interface, it would probably be MSN Messenger. The big bucks Microsoft throws into interface design shows, in my opinion.

MemberI use AIM mostly, only because everyone I know uses it. Most people I know, don’t use any of the others except AIM. I am on AIM mostly because of this… As far as the interface goes… I haven’t seen the newer versions of Yahoo and MSN, so I haven’t seen and of the pretty things people talk about.
AIM’s interface is simple, but not really great, but I use it to talk to my friends, so therefore it is my favorite of the “big four”.~Sathallrin~

Memberfavorite? as in most used, would be msn.
As in most liked, would be Yahoo.
Like Jeff I prefer to run them thru Trillian and as they all feature there.. how would I have a favorite?
Outside of the big four? Odigo ranks very high with me.rustedtight.

Participanti dun get it. what’s with AIM? i don’t know ANYBODY (from my village) that uses AIM. All my friend use MSN, and out of the maybe 100 somewhat people, only 2 or 3 use another Messenger in addition (which happens to be Yahoo)..and thats it…nobody uses AIM. I’m lost….i mean, i’ve just temporarily misplaced myself and am unable to specify my current location.

MemberI guess it depends on the area what program most people use… because where I live… almost everyone uses AIM and nothing else.
Seems odd that it happens that way, but it seems like it does.~Sathallrin~

MemberI have use Y! since it is the only one I could find to traverse the NAT which I use to share broadband access among three computers if I need to use voice and video function.
It seems that my scenario is rare here otherwise Y! should be popular.
