Sorry but I would have to say that DJ is right, how much harder is it to type “to” instead of “2”? It is much better to learn correct typing skills now then to have them all messed up later on in life. I also know that reading “2” instead of “to” is much harder, just like using all CAPS. But Jeff says that he will save slang for his next rant, lets get back to the topic. Why would any one want to type in all CAPS in the first place? We all know it is harder to read, and it is just plain ugly.
My personal experiences are as follows. I just find all caps extremly difficult to read. Most of the time when I’ve encountered them they have come from a newbie and/or someone who works in an office in a terminal program that requires all caps (and they don’t know how the rest of the world despises them.
Now when it comes to chat abbreviations, honesstly then don’t bother me at all. It’s just part of the culture of the net. I’ve been on the internet since 1994 and way back then one of the first things I leared were chat/email/newsgroup/etc abbrevations. I tend to limt thier use in emails or newsgroup and forum posts, but sometimes it’s just easier to express yourself that way (e.g. “LOL”). The same goes for emoticons. If you spend a LOT of time chatting it’s honestly just a much esier way to communicate and frankly I only have problems with 2% of the online population when it comes to this. I will say that there re some less common ones I don’t use at all simply because they aren’t well known. If you do a search you’ll find dozens of sites with very extensive lists of such abbreviatons.
Oh well, it seems my opinion is alwyas at odds with everyone. I will say that I do consider msyself quite tech saavy however…

ParticipantI came up with my screen name….well actually I “borrowed” it from somehwere.. I’m not sure were I saw it. But I liked it. I’m told I’m seemingly always “mad at the world” so I just felt it appropriate. 😀
