It is a Yahoo! only emoticon, (as much as my memory goes). 🙂 That means, it will appear only if you use Yahoo and type the right code.
It is now available on invitation only. However, it is going to be opened up to Pro members as well very soon.
You can also just change your “Interface” to Minimal. To do that, go to Preferences -> Skins -> choose Trillian Whistler, -> click Ädvanced”, then choose Minimal from the top drop down.
And to add your AIM buddies, go to the “Trillian” menu at the top of your contact list, then choose “Add a contact”.
There is something known as the “MCE” Multi-Client Emoticons pack in the Trillian Skins forum. Take a look there. 🙂

Yes, the web edition supports Metacontacts! Since it syncs up your contact list with Trillian Astra (desktop edition) to our server, it will load and show all your metacontacts as well. Yup, that one feature is enough to excite a lot of people. 😉
