MemberWhich AIM version are you using? Maybe if you try the new beta it might work out? I have had my default away message say “around” and I go idle, but I have seen my buddies not have any default away message and/or not go idle.

I’m aware of the fact that AIM users can’t view AOL profiles of AOL users, only AIM profiles, so what do the people who use instant messaging thru AOL get or have that people that just d/l AIM and potentially have a different internet provider??? The aol subscribers that actually have aol dont have any versions or capabilities that allow for profile tracking WITHOUT A LINK do they, cause im aware that the script in ALL AIM FORMS does not support a profile tracker, therefore if desired, one would have to be put in thru imchaos or something, but would it be the same case for actual AOL users who chat?i guess in short im saying, does it matter whether u have AIM or AOL(although aol runs both of them) without a link, no profile can be tracked or counted….NOW IM NOT ASKING THIS QUESTION THAT IS MOST POPULAR ON HERE, IM ASKING IF THEY HAVE CAPABILITIES US AIM USERS DONT
Well…AOL is now free. You do not need to have internet from them, but can still create an AOL screenname and use their software. You can have your own personal @aol.com addy, use thier software, etc.

MemberI submitted a bug report for that issue months ago and also posted on the aim beta forums. I realized they still haven’t fixed it yet….:(

MemberDo you have this problem with 5.9 or lower?
nyywrldchamps
MemberActually…I’ve had the problem where on 5.9 AIM would say my profile was too big, but when i went to AIM 6.0, I could add additional text to my profile and it allowed it. Even today, I have a ton of pictures in my profile due to the AIM 6.1 ability now.
Thats AOL for you :woot:

I have a child away at college, first year and apparently that’s the only way I can seem to get ahold of him. Thanks again for your concern though.I know of a AIM program (3rd party) that you can put on your flash drive and load it up onto your computer without any installation. I cant remember that name of it. Maybe someone can help me out?
Another way would be to use one of those proxy sites. You go onto a proxy site and use their “web browser” on their site and you could possibly access AIM through them. lol. We actually used to use this method to access AIM in school, until they started to block the proxy sites. 😡 Here is a site http://proxy.org/cgi_proxies.shtml click on the left side to one of the working proxies and try to log onto AIM.com or one of those alternative sites I gave you.

The program is downloaded onto my machine, but it doesn’t connect, and when I went to check the firewall, it said that there wasn’t one set up, rather it was a group policy. Does anyone know how I could get around this? Thanks.Does AIM express work? Or any other web-based AIM sites?

Membersylentrebel wrote:I was wondering if this was something new, or if there’s a problem with my computer. Whenever I try to check more then a certain amount of away messages in a row, (as I do when i get bored) I get this error:“You cannot get member infor of (buddy’s name) due to rate limiting; try again in another minute”
Is this something new? Becuase it’s kind of annoying…
Nope that isnt something new. I did the same thing a few months ago on aim 5.5 I kept hitting ‘get info’ of one of my buddies about 50 times or so (I actually lost count) and I got an error message similar to that. It wouldnt let me check anyone elses aim profile or away message for a few minutes. :woot:

Memberklentropy wrote:this problem has been around since 2004. i’ve scoured the entire net to find help, but nobody has been able to answer this. it’s definitely been happening to many people.i just made a new sn, and when i tried to change the format right afterwards, it just hung on “connecting to server.”
curiously, when i changed my original sn format, it went instantly. so i know it’s not my computer nor the software causing it. just to make sure, i used various clients, and the result is the same.
is it because they changed it to an integrated name service? but this problem dates back to 2004.
please. someone help. it actually matters to me.
Maybe it depends on how old the screenname is? They will not let you change the format on new ones but old ones are ok? I do have a screename from 1999 and I can still change the format on that one as of today. My other one I havent tried yet.

Memberjoemz wrote:i set up a bunch of mobile users with cell phone numbers in AOL IM, and have been able to send sms text messages to them without a problemthen it stopped. it seemed to stop at the same time I switched to Triton, but when I tried doing the cell-text messaging on another machine that hadn’t been upgraded, it didn’t work either
I can send text messages to cingular customer from MSN IM, so I don’t think its a cingular problem. I used my cell phone as the test phone, and I get text messages all the time, so its not the phone either
I get an auto response that says Your message could not be delivered.
any suggestions?
Same problem over here. I use AIM 5.5, so I doubt it is a client issue, but an AIM one. I have VerizonWireless and all of my friends are the same. I would send them a message and they will just never get it. This has just started to happen in the past 2 weeks. Sometimes a few messages will go through, but others will not.

MemberDo you use any type of firewall software? That could be blocking aim, trillian, and gaim from acessing the internet, thus causing your problem.
kai wrote:So I have AIM, Trillian, and Gaim…just cause. For some odd reason, I haven’t been able to sign on to any of my AIM screennames for the past two days, I keep getting an “error code 0” and “could not connect to host.” The other odd thing is that I can’t even get the AIM website to load. This happened once before on another computer and went away after two months or so. If anyone can tell me what’s going on, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!nyywrldchamps
MemberActually, I have been having a problem similar to that. I would login and everything, but I would eventually get disconnected. When I try to reconnect, AIM would either hang on validating, say no connection found, or AIM is unavailable. It has been happening all for a few days for me, and only on a certain screenname. My other ones would work fine.
The AIM servers were probably down that week. But I have never had a situation like that before.
