i have found a way for the middleman aim enhancer to work with aim on the middleman website. This is for those who get the error meassage that says something about a file called idlemon.dll. To fix this problem it requires 2 easy simple steps. Below is the faq from middleman websiteAs many of you have found out, middle_man does not work “properly” with the new AIM 5.9 versions. There are a couple reasons for this, and I will try to explain them.
First and foremost, AIM added a new function to one of their files, idlemon.dll. As you may have guessed, middle_man creates its own idlemon.dll file in order to do cloning.
Secondly (if you’ve gotten past the first problem), the ad removal is not going to work properly because of the obvious: AIM changed its buddylist around a little, so not all of the buttons will line up properly.
Now there are workarounds for both of these problems. While we don’t suggest using them unless you’re sure you know what you’re doing, I will outline them anyway.
This process is going to seem a little pointless, but please try to keep up.
1) Install AIM onto your computer, if AIM is already installed, do not reinstall it.
2) Install middle_man onto your computer. At this point middle_man will “break” AIM and it will not load. You’ll see the error message:“The procedure entry point AimIdleShutdown could not be located in the dynamic link library idlemon.dll.”
3) Navigate to your AIM directory using Explorer. The directory should be something like C:Program FilesAIM and find the file called idlemon.dll
4) Rename idlemon.dll to idlemon.dll.mm
5) Find the file called idlemon.dll.bak
6) Rename idlemon.dll.bak to idlemon.dll
7) Start AIM. It should no longer complain about a missing procedure point.
8) If AIM does succesfully start up, you should also have middle_man on. Go to the middle_man preferences.
9) Click on the Ad Removal section and uncheck all of the items and then click OK.
If you want ad removal for your AIM, you can find the Ad Hack file that is floating around. What the file will do is take the ads completely out of the program. I do not recommend doing this unless you’re very clear on how to do it and you know what you’re doing.
Beyond this point I cannot offer you more assistance. Beta 2 was not made for this version and we’re not going to support it as if it were. Beta 3 will be fully compatible with the latest versions of AIM, however there is no expected release date for it. As time goes on, you’ll hear more and more about it.
If you do chose to use this workaround please do not direct any questions or problems to our contact page. We will not offer support for 5.9 through the email system.
If you would like to use an older version of AIM you can download it from our downloads page. Simply reinstall an older version of AIM and then reinstall middle_man.
Hope this helps everyone! Thanks for relentlessly trying to use our product!
