TyphoonMemberPhilip;227721 wrote:I’m just wondering whether any of our members have downloaded and installed AVG8 Antivirus in their systems. There have been many reports of the internet slowing down on users’ computers after installing this. My problem is different. Let me explain.I’m running Vista on my Pentium 4 3.0GHz with 2 GB of RAM. Previously I’d used AVG7.5 Free without any problem. I downloaded and installed AVG8 on top of 7.5 without any trouble (the newer version uninstalled the older version). This is the only AV program in my computer.
My problem started when I initiated a scan of my C: drive. When scanning through my Adobe pdf files, AVG8 would hang, my CPU usage shot to 100% and the CPU fan whined like it was about to explode. I don’t understand what the big deal is with scanning pdf files, but AVG8 just doesn’t seem to like scanning them!
After some cursing, I uninstalled AVG8 and went back to AVG7.5. I ran a complete scan again, and it scanned through all my pdf files without even blinking! So what the heck is wrong with AVG8? If it’s a bug, it’s a serious bug, because I’m sure millions of users have pdf files in their computers.
When checking binary of AV8, It seems to want to eat your processor.
When it comes down to it, if users install it while another anti virus is installed, you can wave good bye to your PC.They have more then 3 classes of Hash in their Vault alone.
I’d say stick to Kasperky.

I can change it and it’ll work until I close WLM but if I start it again the background sets back to the default one.
No custom backgrounds are installed , only the ones which come with the program.
This is the only problem I’m having with it for some reason I can’t get it to not use the default background or in other word this is the only on it’ll use. Any tips to try?
Windows live messenger

Vista Ultimate 32bit SP1I know this works because my wifes is fine with this same version.
Thanks Gumby
Although to other responses, I’d say its a file in the registry.
I used C classes to code my own IM client, and experienced these problems, and found out it was a dud file in the registry. -
