Hey does anybody know the AIM trick so that I can see who’s read my profile/away message??
December 12, 2001 at 7:20 am #102867Jeff HesterKeymasterHmmm… don’t know about the “away” message, but to check if someone’s read your profile, you can create a URL to a web page with a counter. If you view my AIM profile, you’ll see a link that goes to here. This profile is hosted at http://www.aimprofiles.com. They have more instructions on how to do this (using their site, of course).
It’s not a perfect solution, because it requires the person viewing your profile to follow the link. But it’s better than nothing!
You could also create a link that went right to your member profile here at BigBlueBall. I don’t have a counter on those pages at the moment, but I could add it if there’s an interest.

February 6, 2002 at 7:31 am #102866Jeff HesterKeymasterGood question, and an awesome tip!
AOL has a “dice machine” built-in to their chat program. It lets you select the number of dice to roll and even the number of sides the dice have (six for a cube, or more for some games like D&D).
Using AIM, you would type:
//roll-dice3-sides6
to roll 3, six-sided dice. It will return random results, like this for example:
*OnlineHost*: JHester00 rolled 3 6-sided dice: 2 2 4
You can also use “impossible” dice, like a two-sided dice (a coin?), or all the way up to a 999-sided dice!!!

March 17, 2002 at 2:41 am #102874subMembertheres this trick going around, where people can actually manufacture or fix up there own information. Not the regular buddy profile. I mean the field that appears when you move your mouse over your buddy’s screen name on your list. Can someone please help me with this? Ive seen several bio’s that have things included i have never seen. Like the service field, online time etc.

I cant conceive of a 3 sided dice, from 4 n up I accept.These arn’t exactly 3 sided dice, as they technically have 5 sides.
But if you Roll them there is only three possible sides they can land on.

(image was snipped from post, because this post is loaded so much, it was taking a lot of my personal bandwidth to have it load so many times)If you take the two ends, and curve them into a point, you could create a di with three sides, with the 2 points.
A 2 sided di is just a coin, as stated before, so you could have di with all the possible sides.~Sathallrin~

As I’m sure you know, there are services like SubProfile and the like that provide you with counters and other stuff. Away messages, however, probably require you to code it yourself, as I have never seen a “SubAway” service. Of course, it would require clicking a link. The script would work in the exact same way. Check out my profile and/or away message (if I am away, that is) to see an example of a customized profile/away (it’s all in the PHP!). My screenname is MasterNES. I might not be checking back here soon, so IM me for any questions.
