And curiously, why does it take up to 48 hours to have someone’s user name changed, Spike? I mean, if he doesn’t mind changing from Greek characters, into native English, why have him wait to see if you can “look into it”.
What exactly ARE you doing, because it doesn’t take 2 days to have a name change. 😉
I wanted to let him see that he would have to log in with his new name when I changed it. I could have done it right away, I just didn’t want him frustrated that he couldn’t log in because I changed the name on him too quickly. There’s a method to the madness, det, I assure you.
Alright, I guess there’s a vBulletin option for RegExing a username, so I just applied this:
^[A-Za-z0-9 ]+$
Alphanumeric (with lowercase), numbers, and spaces. It’ll save us from worrying about problems that det mentioned, as well as any addons we choose to add later, or even if we redo the site.
What about !@#$%^&*()_+=-`~[];’/.,?:”{}| ?
Those are all valid characters, and it’s stupid to not have them.
Also, as previous deleted, that is NOT what ambiguous means.
Yes, but with just numbers and letters and spaces, we won’t have to worry about vbSEO screwing up URLs (It shouldn’t, the characters you mentioned are more common, but let’s be on the safe side ;)).
What would the regex string be for the characters you mentioned, anyway?
I don’t know what RegEx engine you’re using, whether its vB or PHP?
But if you say those will work improperly with the vbSEO, then okay. They shouldn’t though, since they’re ASCII characters, not Unicode.
