June 9, 2004 at 3:21 am #79917XeonMemberYah, getting past the buddylist is impossible, since the server sends the max values to the client as it signs on, Also if you change the packet and tell AIM you can have more, it still won’t let you add more because the server will send back error codes and reject changes.
June 9, 2004 at 3:37 am #79916camsterMemberthere is one subprofile, that you can get to load in the same window, as if it was a regular profile. im assuming its unlimited or at least more space, but I cant b certain, I cant remember the name of the subprofile tho, ive used at least 10 before
June 9, 2004 at 3:55 am #79903ChanellothParticipantI think this should be in the FAQ. What do you think, since so many people keep asking bout this….
June 21, 2004 at 3:03 am #79921kinoviceMemberi’m not entirly sure this can work but your buddy list is stored on your computer so if you change the windows registry settings you could get up to 450 sn’s on your list.
June 21, 2004 at 3:13 am #79922kinoviceMemberi can send sumone a file for dis if they want. I’d try it myself but I wouldn’t get enough sn within a year.

no. you can’t. READ the posts… a lot of the information AIM stores on your computer, like your profile and your buddylist, are sent to the AIM server and reset when you sign on.
no matter how many people you add or how big you make your profile, the AIM servers will simply cut it off at the size limit. its that simple.

If you have xp goto…
C:Documents and SettingsYour XP User NameApplication DataAIMYour Screen NameInfo.htm
and modify the “Infor.htm” file in notepad… or something.I have XP, and I went down that path, but I could not find an “application data” folder. I also did a search for ‘info.htm’ on the whole computer, and the file was not pulled up. Any clue where my profile info file is?
June 21, 2004 at 4:36 am #79919zerostiMemberit is possible that those files could be “hidden” which is default for some files on xp….make it so that xp shows your hidden files and maybe then you’ll see it.

June 21, 2004 at 7:34 am #79900Someguy03MemberOk, it doesn’t matter what you do on your computer. EVERYTHING stored on your computer that is sent to AOL will be edited if it doesn’t meet the correct requirements. If you change the buddy limit to over 200 in the registry, or w/e it is, it will be reset when you sign on AIM, and if you make your profile too big, text will be cut away until it is the correct size or correct amount of characters by the AOL server.
Stop trying, as unless you find a way around the server, which cannot be done by editing information on your computer, then there will continue be no way to break the buddy limit, and no way to break the profile limit.

June 21, 2004 at 10:33 pm #79924Kman100MemberHey everyone, quick question. What was the version of AIM that started storing your buddies on the AIM server? About the whole “buddy list situation,” would it be possible for me to download an earlier version of AIM and use that to have more than 200 people on my buddy list, given that they were stored locally on my computer rather than on the AIM server? Obviously, this would would be an inconvenience since those buddies would only be on a single computer, but is it even possible anymore?
June 22, 2004 at 1:23 am #79901Someguy03MemberI have used the version. It is so old that it is not even worth using, trust me.
