That’s great, but yet again you’ve posted useless information not pertinent to this topic. Please don’t do it again.
August 14, 2004 at 6:46 am #78254Jeff HesterKeymasterThis thing looks EXACLTY like DC++
Its set up the same way,only difference is,its easier to navigate around on it…….(And the minimum sharing level is 1000x lower (hehehe not 5gb MIN like on DC++ on some servers)) I dont have anywhere near that amount to share……..Even if I did,i would only do it on a private HUB like DC++ (This A++ isnt quite as secure)
It does resemble DC++ though in a big way!!!
August 14, 2004 at 7:12 am #78260detn8rParticipantWhat is “DC++”?
August 14, 2004 at 7:52 am #78255Jeff HesterKeymasterDC++ is a peer to peer network…
Sort of like napster for music or kazaa for files DC++ is the same sort of setup.
Go here for DC++ Clients and information –
DC++ Client – http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net
oDC++ Client (my favorite, your milage may vary) – http://gempond.com/odc (Same as DC++ with some neat mods)
DC++ Faq’s –
http://text.broadbandreports.com/faq/dc
http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/faq/faq.php?list=all&prog=1&lang=en&onlynewfaq=1Good Tutorial –
http://www.b.ali.btinternet.co.uk/DCPlusPlus/index.htmlThe sharing limits on this network are MUCH HIGHER,you may find a server to let you on with no files (I did yesterday) But they are very rare…..
Lets here some comments on this awesome client……(This is kinda like an advanced version of this A++ S/W)
September 3, 2004 at 3:04 pm #78280Ender1490MemberHas anyone tried SoulSeek (http://www.slsknet.org)? Its mostly for music. Download speeds arent guaranteed cuz you can set the upload speed rate and how many files can be uploaded at one time. You can find good quality music (usually from a bitrate of 128 [cd quality] and up)
September 10, 2004 at 11:23 pm #78256Jeff HesterKeymasterSoulseek is nice also Ender1490 Thank you……….

Dude, honestly, I don’t know how you stay on the forums. You have a horrid habbit of doing this over and over in almost every topic you reply to. Honestly, you need to turn on that little screen between your brain and your fingers. Yes, it is nice that ender brought up another option, but even if you had nothing to say about it (like you usually seem to), or just think it’s nice, you could write something a little more pertinant if you really have to express your “OK” on it. Something like “Oh yes, why I’ve tried it and I liked this and this, but I still prefere this and that” …seriously…at least then it wouldn’t be as pointlessly obnoxious.
I know it’s a mod’s job to yell at you, but I’m just expressing my distinct annoyance and disappointment in the matter. That and I’m a big mouth and have held my tongue too long by my count.Now then…I personally try to stick to limewire. A few of my aquaintences used some of the mentioned programs and I never really warmed up to most of them. I guess I just like the familiarity of Limewire. That and it really does have a nice variety and I think the format’s easy to follow as well.
It’s not surprising that some of these programs resemble one another, though, after a while it’s hard to come up with original ideas and everything begins to blend together. At least that’s the theme I’ve found reoccuring in certain …things…
September 11, 2004 at 10:53 pm #78277AwesomeSauceParticipantWell whaddya know, I was just on the Morpheus website, and apparently, it connects to more than one network, or in other words, you can connect to Limewire, Kazaa, and iMesh users(there’s a few more). Therfore, you can get WAY more results than most P2P filesharing programs. What I’m wondering is how fast it is… Limewire’s pretty fast, I think I’ll stick with that for now, but if you want a lot of search-results, you might want to try this out.
September 12, 2004 at 8:12 pm #78265Someguy03MemberI can see most of you wanting to use Limewire for Music, and it probably is the best for music, but I have found that Ares dominates all other P2P programs when it comes to downloading software.
September 12, 2004 at 10:34 pm #78278AwesomeSauceParticipantI usually don’t trust downloading software from any P2P program. How do you know that it’s real, and not a virus? for example, if you typed in “MSN messenger 6.1”, There would also probably be tons of different files with different file-sizes. Correct me if I’m wrong.
September 12, 2004 at 10:44 pm #78261detn8rParticipantTrue? But that is why Antivirus apps. were invented?
Live a little man. Viruses can be removed. Now go play with the w.32’s and evil .dll’s.
September 13, 2004 at 2:01 am #78266Someguy03MemberIn Ares (not lite edition) there are 1-5 stars given to each item found in your searches. An Item’s amount of stars are based on how many sources it has (5 stars is usually the maximum 70 sources). Most software that has 3-5 stars gets alot of sources (sources are how many people are distributing the file for download) because it is real. A fake file is not going to develope alot of resources.
Basically, the more populer a file, the better are its chances of not being fake.
October 4, 2004 at 3:12 am #78281vikshankerMembergrr. I downloaded this and it is NOTHING compared to DC++.
quote
DC is a unique file sharing network which consists of different hubs. Unlike other p2p networks such as FastTrack, in most cases you have to share your files to get files, which means no leeches. And of course that also means a wider variety of files for each hub. The much preferred client for the Direct Connect network is a nice open source program called DC++, it has many more features than the original Direct Connect and has a nicer user interface.
unquote. its awesome… the system is set up so that you are able to download whole albums with a click. it is crazy.. by far the filesharing program.
google “dc++” to download, its free and crazy good 🙂
October 4, 2004 at 4:42 am #78279SpikeMemberCan someone provide a direct download link? The server has reached its max bandwith for the month or something…
Edit: Nevermind, I found one.
BTW, another good multi-network P2P is Shareaza.
June 4, 2005 at 9:28 pm #78262OreoMemberAnyone else having the problem where it won’t connect? It (Ares Lite) was working this morning and now it just says “connecting” along the top.
