Running latest build, that’s when it all started and that’s why I say it’s a bug. The options are there available for Preferences … Webcam … Camera Settings > Capture Source but as you know you have to be logged in and have a webcam active to select a source. That’s a catch-22 in that if the ATI/Handicam was the last source it will not initialize. YIM 5.5 will freeze at that point. The only way to get it back is ctrl-alt- del then stop YIM then grab the working WCP file and fire it back up.

April 24, 2003 at 7:29 pm #63400LouisSheffieldMemberI only have a single cam, so I can only guess at things to try …
Initialization – I used to have this problem too. If I launched the vendor’s app to start the camera, then closed it, it worked with Yahoo too afterward. (better than the three-finger salute to Bill Gates)
I have not found a registry entry associated with the Capture Source – almost wondering if it defaults to the “most recently used” windows device of that type – I’ll continue checking, though …
April 24, 2003 at 7:43 pm #63401LouisSheffieldMemberI understand that it’s agony manually switching, but I wonder if any of these registry values change between using the two cams:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareYahooWebcam(any of them?)
and (at least on MY machine)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlsMediaResourcesmsvideoMSVideo.VFWWDMDevicePath
my computer ALSO has
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet002
but I think the one I cited is the one of interestApril 25, 2003 at 5:25 am #63408bigcuyMemberI’ll take a look at the msvideo stuff. I’ve already been all over the registry before and looked at these values, but i’m not a MS video registry entry expert. My biggest gripe is “it WAS working before YIM 5.5”. Now I can’t find any previos version of YIM either so I can’t map what changed between versions! But I’ll live. At least I can get it to work.
May 3, 2003 at 5:27 pm #63407bigcuyMemberThe Beta version 1322 has the problem fixed. So no more fudging with the WCP files. 😀
