Memberi hope someone here can help me out. I was having no problems w/ AIM…i had one of the 5.2 versions. I went out of town last weekend & when I came back I had been disconnected. so I signed back on w/ no problem, then I got a message about upgrading. so I did the upgrade to 5.9 & now I can’t sign on at all. I just keep getting a message that says “the AIM service can’t be reached.” it doesn’t even go through the connecting steps, I just click “sign on” then immediately get the message.
i’m having no problems getting onto the internet through IE & I can still sign onto MSN messenger. so it’s not my internet connection. I don’t have a firewall & i’m just using a standard cable connection, which I never have trouble with. when I go to the AIM connection settings, I let it search different ports & it goes through a bunch of them, but then it says it can’t establish a connection. I haven’t made any other changes w/ my computer…just did the upgrade, then had the problem.
i have already uninstalled & re-installed numerous times. I have also tried other older versions. this happened once before when I tried upgrading (to 5.5) & I went & got an AOL disk & installed AIM from there, then it worked. just tried that this time & still no luck. I even tried using System Restore on my computer & that didn’t work. i’m out of ideas. please help!

MemberYou can try going back to an older version. You can download one at http://www.oldversion.com

Memberi also can’t get it to work w/ any other screen name. i’ve tried most of the older versions. i’ve tried 5.2 again, 4.8, 5.5…nothing works! I can get on AIM Express, but it’s not something I want to use every day, it’s really slow! any other ideas? I don’t understand the port stuff either. it makes no sense b/c I haven’t changed any settings on anything. I used to be able to upgrade all the time, but the last 2 times i’ve tried, this is what happened. then I thought for sure getting an AOL disk & installing AIM from there would work (like it did the last time I had the problem months ago), but that didn’t work either. HELP!

Memberok just a few minutes after I posted my last message, I decided to try one of the older versions one more time. I FINALLY got it to work! i’m now using version 5.2.3292 & don’t ever plan on upgrading again! I thought I had tried this version a couple days ago, but maybe it was one of the other 5.2 versions. anyway, don’t ask me why the heck this worked, but I downloaded it & installed it & now it works just fine. I didn’t even uninstall my 5.5 version first. good luck to everyone else having this problem!

imagehlp.dll

Membera VIRUS? now thats something different buddy…http://www.jayloden.com for AIM viruses (you might not have cleaned it 100%) by the way there is an edit button that you can use, so you don’t double post 🙂 double posting=bad bad bad now as for the port 1590 thing…do ye gots a firewall? check firewall settings for blocked stuff…and unblock AIM or port 1590 if it is blocked, sometimes it gets randomly blocked!
