Yes, he sees the light. And it is good.
I have friends that have Compaq and Dell, and nothing but problems. One of the Compaq owners was having big problems a couple of months ago, and the company wanted $60 just to talk to them! Granted, their warranty was up, but $60 for some guy to read suggested fixes from a screen!? And then say “Well, I don’t know what you should do. Have a nice day.”!! (:(and don’t get me started on emachines!!)
You can bet mine is custom. (always a work in progress though. never quite done with it lol)July 20, 2003 at 3:39 pm #59275David
ParticipantBTW – I will say; for HP Users, you can use ‘HP Instant support,’ it’s free and fast. I’ve never used it, but my friends have and they say its pretty cool. get it on HP machines –> START –> HELP AND SUPPORT –> HP INSTANT SUPPORT.

You can get them from pretty much any Computer Store that isn’t a chain like Futureshop or the US equivelants (the names elude me right now).
I have a great brand-new Custom Computer. 2.4 Ghz, 1GB RAM, 120GB Drive, GeForce Ti 4200 AGP8x 128MB Video Card, WinXP Pro, Sound Blaster Audigy Sound. I love it. Don’t ask how much though. I still need to save up some $$$ for a couple monitors (I need dual monitors!!) 😀

ParticipantI own two computers: A Gateway- which has been an absoloute joke since day one- the on/off button has broken I’m on my second Mouse, and second monitor. I use the Gateway for basics – word, Powerpoint etc.
I use th HP-which hasn’t been better but worse – for the net, downloading MP3’s
With th HP on my third VDU, 3rd Keyboard, 2nd set of spaekaers, and 4th cd drive (still my first floppy) well there’s that to go on me!
But now the HP gives me the blue screen for even just opening an MP3 – luckily, I had the extra warranty from PC World- so I’ll probaabally build my own next time!January 3, 2004 at 1:53 am #59291AMH-UK

I like HPs, haven’t really had any problems, I had to get a new sound card though.
I prefer as everyone else a custom…I built one in September:
2.4GHz OC’ed AMD Athlon XP 2600+
1GB DDR400MHz pc3200 RAM
Dual 120GB HDDs
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB
54x32x54 CD – RW
16X DVD ROM
17″ Flat screen Monitor.Decent 😉

ParticipantRe: your custom made comp.
Erm-I know an ICT Technician and he’s going to build me one but I need to get the parts
I know bits and bobs about Comps. vut not much about the ‘insides’ of a comp. Is 1GB of Read Access Memory ok if I’m going tp download lots of files from the net? and a 3.01 MHZ Processor?Cheers Al

Heh! 😀
1GB of RAM is what I’m running; it’s overkill for most people, you may only need 512MB or 768MB.
3.01MHZ? Huh? What kind of CPU is that?
I’d recommend an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ / 333MHz FSB. The clock is only a bit over 2GHz but it will outperform the Intel 2.8, and get close to the Intel 3GHz. It’s a hell of a lot less pricey too.
