Gaz, 5 people (6 if you count me) are telling you he ISN’T from Yahoo! Don’t worry about him, do what Freddy said and ignore him! He’ll get bored and move on. Anyway, since when did Yahoo have the resources (or will) to moniter chats? And when have you ever seen a real Yahoo ID, let alone a cheesy one with no profile? He is just messing with you still because you got “spooked”.

KeymasterThis sounds very familiar because the same kind of thing has happened to me in the past on Yahoo.
Sometimes I think the only way to get away from a situation like that is to just put the person on ignore. I haven’t had much luck with reporting people to Yahoo.
But what if the same person you keep ignoring keeps changing names on you and won’t leave you alone no matter what? And what if even after you change your name several times they still find you and keep bugging you?
It seems like there’s so much of this kind of thing going on that Yahoo would start monitoring their chat rooms, but they don’t.
I wonder sometimes if I overreact to this kind of thing when it happens to me or if I really should do something serious about it like call an attorney or the police.
What do you guys think?

MemberNot to mention, as of late, I have seen at the bottom of the screen where the ads normally go “YAHOO! CHAT IS NOT MODERATED” Gaz…perhaps your little buddy was bothering more than just you….my guess is yes….and I can imagine that Yahoo! was less than pleased.

At this point I believe it may be a little premature to call an attorney or police. The courts (If you get an attorney to sue) will be looking for money damages caused by the actions taken against you. The police will be looking for threats and/or other loss caused by the actions.

ParticipantGaz did you forward this directly to yahoo. I wouldnt tollerate that and i know this post is going back a long while but i think this guy needs to be reported. Honnestly their are many resources out their on the net and agencies who would love to convict this guy.
August 14, 2006 at 2:30 am #59418Jeff Hester
KeymasterNobody will convict this guy or even look at the compaint mostly since it is so old. I save seen 10 times worse things happen to me on Yahoo.
There are bots every day that breaks the tos agreement that advertise for epiccams.com
They piss me off so much, They allways have the fake webcam on in chat rooms. and Ids something like “amy76hr” or “sandy54mm”, there are hundreds of them

MemberMy advice to you would be just to ignore him. Other than that, there’s really nothing you can do.

ParticipantPLEASE NOTE YAHOO! WILL NEVER PM/IM YOU!
When people pretend to be Yahoo! employees this is called Social Engineering
The best you can do about this is Report said person to yahoo or even better, get the link they try to send you and send it also to yahoo! or find the hosting company thats hosting it and report it to them and they will remove it when threatened with liability.
I have closed hundreds of these said sites over the years and every time i see one i get it shut down.
This is an example on how to purge these peoples site hidden in the url’s.
Dermot , this is an automated message from the Yahoo! abuse department. We have received multiple complaints concerning your account. This constitutes a violation of our Terms of Service Agreement. You must respond to the following complaints to keep your Yahoo! account from being deactivated.

/Y=KR/EXP=1137785657/A=2852618/R=0/?http://42.pl/u/fJNow this site has been altered to not work as it is only an example, but an example of a real site nonetheless and a way these people do this type of social engineering to steal passwords.
Looking at this url you can tell its fake but what you want to look at is the actual redirection link at the end of the url which in this case is http://42.pl/u/fJ which is indeed the site that will kick to the actual password stealing site.
Say this site here http://yahoo-account-services.irv2.com/ opens up which is a real password stealing site so DO NOT sign into it, instead i want you to see what one may look like and how you may get it closed.
You see from the domain thats its hosted by a http://irv2.com/
You need to go to their site and find their abuse or terms of service link.
Which for this site is not located on the main page so using the e-mail webmaster@irv2.com should go directly to the host master of said site….so report to them that the url above is a infringement of yahoo! terms of service and should be removed as soon as possible and that you have reported the url to yahoo! also and to stop any legal entanglement they should remove the site from their servers as soon as possible.
Doing the above procedure will help others not fall to this malicious act and a good way to help it not happening again.
Think of it as doing your part!

ParticipantYeah but how far does it go i mean this guy could be stealing peoples accounts and contacting their employers and **** making up lies and effecting their real lifes by accessing their account info.
I seriously think this guy needs a nice little visit from the police for impersonating a yahoo rep. Its as if they could get away with stalking and ****.

MemberWow, this thread is quite old.
I have never really had that happen to me before, thank goodness. If I were you, I would report him to Yahoo and just put him on ignore. I really doubt that he would be an employee of Yahoo, they don’t PM people in the chat rooms.. at least I didn’t think so! It’s probably just some idiot causing trouble.
