ParticipantWell, just a temporary fix anyway. In your time settings, on the “Internet Time” tab, turn off the time server synchronising.
MSN Messenger should operate again like normal. Hopefully someone can figure out a fix which works with having the time synch on.
Cheers,

ParticipantCan anyone else having this problem post a screenshot of their task manager, and what processes are running?
Right click empty area in the taskbar, click “Task Manager”, click the “Image Name” column so it sorts by alphabetically. Take a screenshot of them, you may need to take two if it scrolls.
Hopefully me or someone else can see something out of place, which might be stopping it from connecting. I was able to produce the error with a program called Fiddler running.

MemberNekuel wrote:Oh, I forgot to mention one thing about my little MSN problem. It seems I can’t even access my hotmail account. And as such, I cannot post replies on that msn blog site you sent me to.And, if that wassn’t bad enough, I can’t even get onto my school email. I hate Microsoft. -_-
I am having the same problem…. I can’t access any hotmail account or MSN site (Space, blog, etc)
I have done the following: correcting date/time, regestering the dll’s, going through the regristry, uninstalling and reinstalling messenger, reconfigured my firewall several times (disabled it, even) and still the MSN messenger and the MSN web sites (hotmail, space, etc) don’t worl…
Please HELP! bluefranco@yahoo.com

MemberHey,
I’ve been having the very same problem. Couldn’t connect to MSN, post in my blog, access the discussion board in my online course, or check my e-mail. Right now I’ve plugged my laptop into a different network (at my school) and all is well. Double check to make sure it’s not a network issue, and phone up your ISP.November 5, 2005 at 3:50 am #130482Lucar
MemberAn update on this problem (and possible solution)!!
I have been working at this for hours at my home and here is what I discovered: I could connect to the Internet perfectly when I accessed it straight through the modem, so I determined that my router was acting a little wonky since the problem was occuring on every computer in the house.
I updated the firmware on my router and now everything works fine. If you are using a router, try updating the firmware. Also, pay special attention to the MTU value (mine is at 1392, while it was at 1492 before the firmware upgrade… try contacting your ISP to find the proper value here). Anyway, if it’s a router issue then don’t bother formatting! The problem will not go away.
I refused to do a format because I knew even if the problem would be solved, I would have to reformat every time it happened. Bah. So try this before going to the extremes.

MemberThose who have problems with MSN Messenger 7.5, do you have a Netgear RP614 Router?
I have a Netgear RP614 and i got the 80048820 error messege, and i have trried everything. I supose that the router is the big problem in this matter.
What do you think?

MemberI know that a simple google will bring up this answer, but for future problems, please include the error message AND the error code. Despite being an MVP, I am yet to recieve a list of Error codes, so they aren’t at all descriptive enough for us to provide you with support. Although the error codes can help a lot, we would prefer it if you could tell us the error message too.
As for this issue..when someone tells me the exact error message, I’ll look into it.

MemberI have found a fix for mine!!! I had already tried the dll registrations, checking the time, disabling the proxy in IE, cleaning up the cache, etc etc.
When trying to check my hotmail account with the browser it would stop trying to resolve loginnet.passport.com. I stuck the following line to my hosts file: 65.54.179.192 loginnet.passport.com and everything went great. Hope it helps.November 25, 2005 at 11:24 pm #130489Jade
Memberwhat is a host file?

MemberI had that error message last night and removed msn because i’d tried everything suggested here and it didn’t work.
Then i re installed msn and it worked fine. But I added a mess patch from mess with msn and it came up with that error so reinstalled it all again without the patch and it’s fine.
I think i could have explained that in a more simple way lol

Member🙁 Getting this now on my neice and nephews pc as it developed the problem at their house, have now reformatted pc 3 times and still no joy. Not my router as I have 4 other pc’s on network and they are fine, can’t be the registry as it’s virgin, the problem first existed with 7.5 and now 8.0
Extended error code:80048439
So if anyone can come up with answer I would be grateful. Sporkman can you elaborate a bit?
