MemberI would love to hear if this is working for people – I haven’t been able to try the connection with my friend but I’m not sure if this will work since I already switched the dll back to this version.

MemberTo Two] – If you are using Windows XP have a look at the URL (Dell Forum) that I gave in my post of 21/12/2003, in it you will find the changes I made to my system. This may help.

MemberHi Tom
That link you gave was a bit iffy (for me anyway!).
I’ve found your reference at http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board?board.id=dim_audio.
Haven’t read it yet – I shall check it out now.I have installed the new 6.1.0207 version and note that the rtcdll.dll version no. is 5.1.2600.1106. I am hoping that this is correct as I have no record anymore of what ver. no. the ‘bad’ file was.
I shall try a conversation asap but I shall have to get my daughter (in Japan) to install the new version first! Many thanks.December 23, 2003 at 9:52 am #91571Gritstone
MemberTom – I’ve read your comments on the Dell forum. You certainly have taken this one on board. Good stuff! Let’s hope MS have sorted this out with their new version. I look forward to trying it with my daughter but Japan-time gives us quite a short window – especially during the working week! Kep your progress posted – I’ll do the same. Cheers.

MemberTo Gritstone – Sorry about the problem with the URL to the Dell Forum it was a typsit’s orrer. The one you give above is obviously correct. Since you operate the same hours as I do, I will send you a private message and we can try and solve our problems together – probably after Christmas I have 6 grandchildren and their parents to entertain for the next few days.

MemberLook forward to that, Tom.
I shall probably try again over Christmas with my daughter. I’ll let you know how I get on. Enjoy your grandchildren and have a happy Christmas! BobDecember 26, 2003 at 6:03 am #91539crazy

MemberGood News – For the first time I had proper 2-way audio with my contact in Japan on Christmas Day! We both have installed the latest version of MSN Messenger (6.1.0207). (See Tom’s efforts on this forum and elsewhere). She is running Windows 2000 (on a laptop), I use XP Home. Seems like Microsoft have finally sorted it out – maybe helped a bit by this Foum!

MemberI’ve just done a search on my PC (Windows XP Home) for the RTCDLL.DLL file and found it in 3 locations.
version 5.1.2600 located in Windows System32version 5.1.2600 located in WindowsServicePackFilesi386version 5.2.4949 located in WindowsWinSxSx86_Microsoft.Windows.Networking.RtcDll_6595b64144ccf1df_5.2.2.1_x-ww_d6bd8b93
I am using MSN Messenger version 6.1.0203 installed on 11th November. From reading the recent messages, it sounds like I should replace the RTCDLL.DLL 5.2.4949 with 5.1.2600.
Does anyone have any comments on this?
Thanks

Just an update – I’ve installed the latest MSN Messenger (downloaded today) and the RTCDLL.DLL versions are still the same as above (which don’t work with audio).

MemberI dont accept that rtcdll is responsible as it works for 90% of users. You need to discover why you dont conform to the setup they are using.

MemberTo Crazy and Parbrook. See Gritstone’s posting of 21/12/2003 for details of the Dell Forum webpage which gives a lot of advice. My first reaction is that you need to download the latest version of MSN Messenger which is version 6.1.0207 and this will install the most up-to-date version of RTCDLL.DLL (5.1.2600) in the correct locations on your computer.

MemberOk I have read all the responses in this thread and have tried the solutions, to no avail. I am getting stuck at the deleting/removing of the corrupt dll, windows keeps putting it back! it is driving me absolutely insane! Is there some feature in XP that I can turn off so it stops replacing the dll i delete on purpose?!
