MemberI too have no audio following upgrade from V4.7 to the latest 6.1 version, in windows XP
Does anyone know if doing a system restore to before the upgrade date, would put me back to square one with a working version.
How does V5 differ to V4.7
ThanksJanuary 9, 2004 at 2:13 pm #91555TomHyde
MemberTo Parbrook, Madaman13 & Davelennon. I feel like the one-eyed man in the land of the blind – I’m no expert but I offer the following advice:
Change the names of all of the RTCDLL.DLL files to RTCDLL.OLD. If you are using Windows XP, (I cannot help with other versions of Windows) download the current version of MSN Messenger, which should have the Version Number 6.1.0207, and this should install RTCDLL.DLL (5.1.2600). Shutdown/Reopen your computer and check the versions of RTCDLL.DLL on your computer. If these are correct, disable your firewall (only for the period during which you use MSN Messenger) and then try to use the program. If the person you are contacting does not have the up-to-date version you may still be unable to use audio although you should still be able to use video and to write messages.
Also you could try using Netmeeting which is included in Windows XP and is opened by using this procedure Start/Run, then type conf.exe and click on OK. But you will need to configure the program so that the correct hardware is identified. Also in Netmeeting you need to use IP addresses in order to connect. Your IP address can be found by opening Netmeeting, click on Help and then on “About Netmeeting”. The IP address is shown at the bottom of the box. Use MSN Messenger!!!! to transfer IP addresses, but do NOT try to use Audio or Video in both programs at the same time. There does not seem to be any problem with written messages.
Please remember to report back.January 9, 2004 at 3:54 pm #91586davelennon
MemberTom, have followed your procedure, now have just one version of rtcdll.dll on my Pc, now at V5.2.4949.1001
wil have to wait for friend to get on his comp before I can try it out fully. video checks out speakers and mic working but can’t tell if sending audio works. Thanks for you help. Thanks to TOM HYDE
This is what I did
1. Search Pc for rtcdll.dll should find 3 copies delete all
2. XP will try to replace, ignore error message.
3. re install MSN Messenger 6.1
4. reboot
5. I checked again how many copies of the DLL file existed to be confident and only one did.
6. I also reloaded my camera software, rebooting againtried it out and all works, yes video conferencing in MSN Messenger

Memberdo i have a different problem if i have a router ?
January 10, 2004 at 8:45 am #91554TomHyde
MemberTo ChrisKCK. You need to provide much more detail about your system, and the type of problem you have, in order to be helped since, in the posts to this topic, several problems have been raised. But first you should read the previous posts, look up the links that they provide, and then you may find the answer to your problem. If not, report back to this forum.

MemberOK… so I’ve been reading through all these forums, and others, and help centers, etc etc etc and somehow I think I’m missing something fairly simple. Here’s the situation and what I’ve tried:
I’ve got:
-Logitech QuickCam Messenger
-Linksys 4 Port Router
-Cable Broadband connection
-Windows XP
-MSN Messenger 6.1
-(latest drivers for everything)What happens:
-No audio from me (won’t connect)
-Quickcam sometimes freezes MSN messenger
-can receive video from others but can’t receive audio from othersI’ve tried:
-using only the drivers for the camera/mike and not the software that came w/ the camera.
-using the full software package
-fixing rtcdll.dll (current version is 5.1.2600.0)
-changin the server in the registry to gateway.messenger.hotmail.com:80
-using a proxy server in MSN Messenger (HTTP, port 80)
-bypassing the router and having a straight-to-cablemodem connection
-opening ports on the router
-using UPnP Port Forwarding on the router as suggested here: http://www.compusmart.ab.ca/mikes/lvideo7.html#msnmess…and I think that about does it. Now, of course the camera itself works fine as well as the built in mike, it’s just the MSN thing. SO, is there something I’m missing or doing wrong? I think I’ve provided all the info needed here but if anyone else has any suggestions, let me know! Or, alternatley, since MSN is such a PITA, another IM client that can *handle* MSN client (i.e. Trillian) but do the audio/video as well.
Cheers,

Memberok heres a question for the ones who get audio to work, how many rtcdll.dll files do you have and where are their locations?
I seem to have 2 one in system 32 and one in system, the one is system is an older version.January 11, 2004 at 12:25 pm #91580parbrook
MemberHere’s an answer to one of jameson’s questions.
After several unsuccessful and erratic attempts to use MSN with audio (sometimes working one way, other times not at all), I installed Eyeball Chat http://www.eyeballchat.com along with a few friends.
This program uses a peer-to-peer connection and it works on slower connections – text, audio and video.
It is also supposed to support MSN, AOL and Yahoo IM formats, but always fails to log me into MSN, although you can have both running at the same time.January 11, 2004 at 9:13 pm #91553TomHyde
MemberTo ChrisKcK & Jameson. I am trying to get you both on my contacts list, I hope you don’t mind the personal approach, It worked with DaveLennon we have had a couple of lengthy two-way audio/visual conversations. Watch out when I am on-line and I will try to help, now that I know the set-up on my computer that works. I have Windows XP, MSN Messenger 6.1 (Version 6.1.0207).
ChrisKcK, provided you are using Windows XP Home you must download the latest version of MSN Messenger 6.1 from the Microsoft website. I would advise you to delete all copies of the offending RTCDLL.DLL file before downloading. My version of this file is 5.1.2600 and it is located in C:4f5a6842124efa4e9.To Jameson, I hope you get up early or stay late on-line, there must 6 or 7 time zones between us.
Good luck

MemberWell, looks like I finally got it working. I just fed up with the damn router and disconnected it, and now it works fine (of course!) 😀
I ended up talking to my father in law online and he also got the same webcam, worked fine with audio as well.
Also later connected with TomHyde (thanks for that) and everything *seems* to be working now… sort of…The latest problem is the audio. Both my fatherinlaw and myself’s audio tends to cut out for a second or two at most, and we don’t know whether it is our microphones (they’re built into the camera just in case you aren’t familiar with the model) or the way we have them configured, or the fact that microsoft actually blows. 😉
Ideas?
