Watch out when I am on-line and I will try to help, now that I know the set-up on my computer that works. I have Windows XP, MSN Messenger 6.1 (Version 6.1.0207).
ChrisKcK, provided you are using Windows XP Home you must download the latest version of MSN Messenger 6.1 from the Microsoft website. I would advise you to delete all copies of the offending RTCDLL.DLL file before downloading. My version of this file is 5.1.2600 and it is located in C:4f5a6842124efa4e9.To Jameson, I hope you get up early or stay late on-line, there must 6 or 7 time zones between us.
Good luck

Tom has been helping ppl who still haven’t had any luck, cos he seems to have got it going and other dont seem to be able to. my request was just to attempt what he has done with 2 others so far, not to find a solution and hold back. geez 🙁

MemberTo ICEcubed: I have put you on my AIM Biddies list – we can use it to exchange E-mail addresses then we can experiment with MSN Messenger. I have no objection to such an arrangement it only needs to be short-term.

MemberThis situation with Messenger has become REALLY strange……….
Just contact my friend through the system and luckly we could both hear each other with normal voice.
Decided to log off and try again to see if finally the problem had been resolved…….guess what ???????The “lion roaring voice” was back.
WHAT could be the final solution for this ????

MemberI’m going crazy. My wife video conferences with family in Europe…well, she did until I bought a new computer. Running MSN messenger 6.1, used two different webcams.
We can see/hear them…but they can’t see or hear us. What gives?!??!
Been working on this for weeks. No firewall set up. accessed netmeeting and everything seems to be in order. No routers. just a cable hookup. Please help? Anyone?

MemberTo Skuhn8: Read the other earlier pages on this topic and you will find some advice. Also you can look at the webpage below:

Otherwise you could stick with Netmeeting and ask your contacts to use it.

Have you tried using a different mic? Do all of your contacts hear the “roaring sound” or just one?

MemberTo Goff123: I used MSN Messenger to transfer the IP address by typing it in the message box and sending it. Of course, both you and your contact need to make the connection in MSN Messenger first but, if you recall, both of you will have each other’s e-mail address in order to use MSN Messenger. Only one IP address is needed in Netmeeting, if you send your IP address the other person should start the conversation by typing it in the box adjacent to the telephone symbol and then clicking on that symbol. You will then hear the telephone ringing through your speakers, you then agree to talk. Both MSN Messenger and Netmeeting can be opened at the same time for written messages, but you cannot use the same hardware (video & audio) in both programs at the same time. It is advisable that you set the hardware controls correctly before starting the conversation in Netmeeting. If you have Windows XP it may be necessary to disable the firewall.
