MemberJust a suggestion…
What do we think to introducing a new member rank, named something like Guru, Advisor, or other such terms.
Basically, the rank would not depend on quantity of posts, but would perhaps honour quality. The decision on whether or not to give a member this title would obviously be at the discretion of the administration and moderation team.
I propose that any member given the new rank would have a history of quality posts, as I said earlier, quantity would not be an issue.
A Forum Guru/Advisor would not have moderator privilidges, however they may demonstrate some of the qualities required to be a moderator. It would allow other members to recognise the quality which the member has, and could be a recognition of the hard work which the member has put in, in order to gain this rank.
What do we think?

MemberSounds a lot like the MotM to me…I vote no, sorry, becuase the two are way too similar.

MemberHmm I guess so. I did consider that…but thought it was still worth suggesting.
Fair enough though.

KeymasterI like the concept. A member of the month is not necessarily a guru or advisor, so I see it as a different sort of thing. I’m not sure exactly how I would implement it, but it’s a good thought and I’m going to think about it for a while.

MemberCheers Jeff, I wasn’t sure exactly how to convey the thought I had in mind.
Thanks for taking it into consideration though. 🙂

MemberIf you implement it, can the stars be blue? Kinda like the Rookie, but…well, here’s the Hex:
“#003399” It’s my favorite shade of blue. 😀November 16, 2004 at 10:43 pm #104961Quiksilver
MemberThat’s actually a pretty good idea. The MotM sounds similar but isn’t. MotM is from that particular month. The Guru/Advisor is from a history of good posts and help. So that’d let the ones asking questions be able to kind of sort ou the answers to a question. Set aside the moderator’s posts and you have a lot of mixed answers. One of those happens to be a Guru/Advispr and you know you can trust that answer. That could though run into difficulties because the Guru/Advisor would probably know a lot about one thing and not too many…so maybe something like Guru/Adivsor for a certain forum? Sort of like a smart guy that you can trust will know what they’re talking about…

spike…requesting colors eh? gotta love blue tho…November 16, 2004 at 11:29 pm #104952RabidKitten
ParticipantNot too bad an idea, I suppose. Of course it’s a bit strange to me to have one person with more merit than the others, but of course, I’m sure we each do that in our minds anyway, take one persons advice more to heart than anothers. *little shrug* Heh, have fun figuring how to impliment that one, Jeff.

MemberYeah, nicely put dragonreborn and RK.
I was thinking that it would perhaps give members an indication on which answers are the most reliable, and which may be of most assistance to them. Now, I am not saying that this should completely disregard any other replies, but it may help a member prioritise which reply/method/solution he or she attempts first. If you get my meaning…

I get the feeling most can tell from posting style/number of posts. It’s a cool idea, and it’d be neat to see it, but I think it may inflate the ego’s of those that receive it.

KeymasterInflated egos? Nah… would NEVER happen. 😉

That could happen. However that’s why I think it would be good to say that anyone receiving this title would have to show some moderator qualities, (Because we don’t get big-headed moderators here, do we!) and, as stated, not receive moderator privilidges.
Obviously, we wouldn’t want such titles to be handed out left right and centre, it would be down to the moderating team and administration team to perhaps nominate, suggest, and eventually elect a member for such a title.

ParticipantSure Jeff…*eyeroll*
Anyways, those that receive it will most likely not gain an inflated ego, or they wouldn’t have been chosen.
Hmm, some forums implement this idea in the forum of “elite” members and the way you can tell it that there is a + in front of there name and of course a special title. They are those members who have shown to be a great asset to the forum, not only in post count/quality, but in demanor as well. Then they get some special priveleges too, like their own forum section. These “golden” members are not chosen very often, only when the staff sees someone worthy. Hmm, not a bad idea for BBB…not bad at all.

Memberwe have something similar on the aimutation forums. Instead of calling them Advisor or guru, we call them helpers, and we gave them cute lil pink aimutation guys, under their name. 🙂 We didn’t give them moderator privledges though, but its something like a step to becoming a mod.
November 17, 2004 at 1:11 am #104948MartinBradley
MemberI agree with Dr Kimble and ladie_vennom. No moderator privilidges, but being made a Guru (call it what you will) could perhaps mean that you are a potential candidate for the moderating team.
Of course, if the problem of inflated ego does arise, they can always be stripped of their title.
