MemberI bet there’s a way to do it in the registry by turning a switch on or off (for expert users) but you would need a script or trigger to enable you to be shown online again. Im gonna try trillian and see if it has no spyware like it claims.
Billy Gates does it so he can “herd” us in to tighter and tighter corrals. Its just like caller ID or any other marketing ploy. At first its free, then you get dependant on it they restrict or add features that you think you “need”
then they try to charge you. Just like index.dat and super hidden alexa, eventually/or even now you have no privacy and thats that! good to se e people r bucking the MS monopoly trend! keep it up, find other ways! don’t let billy bully you into a corner!July 9, 2003 at 9:38 pm #102133cryptoripper
MemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by Philwhat you can do is use trillian (http://www.trillian.cc)…there is an option that allows you to save the status that you last had when you exited trillian last…i find this useful because most of the time, i appear offline before fully shut down trillian….so when i come to use trillian again, i log in and my status is appear offline! i find it really useful if you just want to log in to see if you have any emails or to see if someone is online, without being bombarded wif messages from others.
well well !! trillian states “Trillian .74 is completely free, with no use limits, no spyware and no ads. 8 Million downloads can’t be wrong!
Well They %$% lied, it may not have adds but IT HAS SPYWARE ALL OVER IT, I use spybot search and destroy! well it lit up like a christmas tree after the trillian install! But who r we kidding? Any mICROSOFT PRODUCT IS SPYWARE IN AND OF ITSELF, unless you know exactly what to do with the registry, settings and your firewall. PRIVACY THEFT WILL NEVER END IF PEOPLE DON”T EDUCATE THEMSELVES (90% of us are not) OR CARE! BE CAREFUL ON DNLOADS ITS A JUNGLE OUT THERE!
be safe!

Er, Trillian is not a Microsoft product, it is made by Cerulean Studios. I ran an updated Spybot Search and Destroy after installing Trillian, and came up with no spyware hits. Did you run Spybot before you installed Trillian to be sure your spyware wasn’t previously installed?

I enabled it, to see how it works, and I will say that it did a good job of what I expected it to do, but I was not able to switch my status to online to talk to people. Which kinda sucked, because now I had to go back and disable that feature.
