Memberit’s this rubbish prog that allows you to tweak features within messenger…from what I can understand, it’s my son that uses it. Everytime you type and send a message on messenger it advertises its website under your signiture…which is really annoying and ugly. When you uninstall it it doesnt stop working. And within program files it will not allow you to delete it. I also suspect it is spyware or something similar.
You got my hopes up thinking someone had given me the answer of how to get rid of it. I recommend you do not install IM Names yourself

MemberUgh, I have this too. I’d be interested on finding out if anyone has a way to get rid of it, as I have no clue. My sister downloaded it and now I can’t get it off of my comp!
That website didn’t really help me. The IM-names program won’t let me do anything to it!

ParticipantIf your Antipyware did not work.Simply to a search of you computer of all files and folders called IM-svr. It will come up with two results, delete both and your problems should be over!!!
to do the search….
1.Click Start > Find > Files or Folders.
2.In the All or part of the file name field, type the name of the file you want to search for.
3.In the Look in field, select the drive you want to search.
4.Click Search. If the file is found, it appears in the Search Results pane along with its location.Good luck!!! 🙂

That damn thing still left things on your computer after you removed it,that is why I suggested do a search for those files.March 4, 2006 at 8:28 pm #138602angelroyal40
ParticipantThanks for the advice but I’ve tried following that link. I’ve also tried searching the whole of my computer and deleted everything to do with IM names. I am left with IM svr which is the advertising which wont let me delete it.

ParticipantSome files need to be locked down when they are in use, otherwise you risk damaging the file or harming the Operating System.Make sure you are not running your MSN Messenger.
I use a good program to delete files that are hard to delete it call Moveonboot you can find it here http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/moveonboot.html
6. It’s free and this simple tool allows you to Move, Copy or Delete files before Windows can lock or alter the files. The changes are made to your hard drive before Windows starts, hence it requires a restart of your system after you give MoveOnBoot its instructions. There are no messy boot or DOS commands, just a simple 3-step process.
Step 1: Locate the name of the file that is causing your problems.
Step 2: Decide if you want to copy, move or delete the file.
Step 3. Choose a destination for moving the file, or a new file name for the rename option (this option won’t appear if you are deleting a file).
Click OK to confirm you want to process. The nice thing is that the program doesn’t make you reboot straight away. It’s a good idea to reboot ASAP, but if you are in the middle of something and want to wait, the program will simply run next time you start Windows.
7. If the file reappears again (check its creation date to ensure it is being recreated) and you can’t make it budge, you may have trouble with spyware or a virus on your system (don’t overlook the possibility it may also be an important system file). In this case you should get a good spyware removal program to scan your system.
