Hi,
Is anyone using the new Internet Explorer 7? Was wondering if its worth downloading yet. ThanksOctober 20, 2006 at 3:33 pm #153535Eagle_KiwiMemberHi again Sunflowers. 🙂
I don’t use IE much (prefer SlimBrowser and/or Firefox), but anyway I installed IE7 last week.Probably the MAJOR difference is that it now has joined all the OTHER browsers in offering tabbed browsing. That in itself would be reason enough to upgrade from IE6 – but I think even better switch to some OTHER browser that already has it.
I dislike that IE7 seems to INSIST that you have a Search Box built-in (with no option to remove it) and generally seems to offer much less flexibility in customising what toolbars etc YOU wish to have showing.
I also notice now when I might click an online MPG to play, it first “downloads” it as usual, but THEN it takes another step, of “verifying” it, before it plays.
Only a slight extra delay, AND probably giving me extra security in some way…. but again, I don’t think I WANT it, but I seem to be given no choice.A timely topic, and interesting to see what others feel. . . .

Thanks for responding. I was just wondering because now Yahoo seems to be plugging it. Ive tried Firefox but god it seems so slow to start up. Im not sure why. I still have it but rarely use it. Thanks for your input. 🙂October 20, 2006 at 8:46 pm #153533imported_Ven0mMemberThe only problem I have with IE7 is turning on ClearType on by default, regardless of the system wide setting (But, this has been somewhat corrected in the final version of IE7 with the ability to choose to turn it on or not).
October 20, 2006 at 9:00 pm #153541Soccer4dummysMembermaybe you should try to download fasterfox (an exention for firefox) you can get it at this website: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1269/
October 20, 2006 at 9:09 pm #153534imported_Ven0mMemberI find that Fasterfox doesn’t really do much good. I find it’s better to have a really fast computer to handle Firefox, or, of course, you can add Firefox to the Prefetch to try to speed it up some.
October 21, 2006 at 7:13 am #153519DavidParticipantFasterfox is an extension designed to speed up the loading of pages and content. Fasterfox tweaks your network settings within Firefox to allow multiple objects to be downloaded at the same time. It has nothing at all to do with startup time or actual application speed.
Firefox takes longer than most applications to start because it’s a cross-platform compatible program. It uses a windowing toolkit that normally wouldn’t need to be loaded. What helps is mostly a computer with a fast hard disk.
October 21, 2006 at 7:09 pm #153530MrEggsaladParticipantIn my experience with IE7, it has basically been the same as IE6 (from my limited testing), however overall the program seems to be a little slower. I don’t think it matters so much if you do upgrade or not. However, you do need to have a legal version of XP to use it, and it does check. So, I mean, if IE6 works for ya, keep with that only because IE7 only gives it tabs and finally makes it somewhat useful.
October 22, 2006 at 4:14 pm #153537Mac_BlueMemberDoes IE 7 work with windows 98?
October 22, 2006 at 4:37 pm #153527DrBroccoliParticipantNo, it only works on Server 2003, XPSP2 and XPx64.

If you’ve still got Windows 98, it’s time to upgrade to Windows XP. And if your copmuter can’t support Windows XP, it’s time to upgrade your computer, because it’s only going to get worse.
November 4, 2006 at 12:31 am #153542schmottyMemberWith IE7 I haven’t been able to play any .mpg, .mpeg, or .avi files in the browser. The file downloads, but then I’m left with a blank page. Any suggestions?

November 14, 2006 at 5:10 pm #153544ronnycopehMemberI thinks its okay no problem yet, I also have toolbars activated and everything seem to be working okay. I use it as my secondary browser. I have the best Avant as my primary. As stated before firefox startup is slow and my computer runs pretty fast. I only wish there was a way to move the tabs bar in ie to the bottom, thats my only concern.
December 22, 2006 at 3:05 pm #153545Google GuruMemberInternet Explorer 7 works fine on my computer, fast speeds, somewhat good security, definitely an improvement over Internet Explorer 6. I use Firefox 2, though.
