Two or three years, I’m not exactly sure. But one thing I am sure of is that I have been able to use IRC on this router until a couple of months ago. Which was when I got omy other computer back from the repair shop. I had to reinstall Windows XP on it. Since then both of my networked computers haven’t been able to use IRC, I think.
June 22, 2005 at 1:14 am #124011imported_EvilSephMemberUhh..for some reason this thread disappeared. Anyway, does IRC work yet? If not..what have you tried and I need to know some details regarding the environment your pc is in (is it part of a network, behind a router..etc.).
Apologies for late reply..I couldn’t find this thread..

August 12, 2006 at 3:30 am #124019AwesomeSauceParticipantI’m resurrecting this thread, because I am still having this problem.
However, it DID work at one point because if I remember correctly, Dave gave me a simple solution and somehow it worked for a brief period of time.
As of right now, however, it does not work. And it hasn’t worked for a while. Trillian cannot connect to BBB’s IRC, and I’m pretty dang sure that I have the right address and everything. I even tried disabling my firewall, and it still doesn’t work.
When I try to join the chat in the web applet here on bigblueball.com, I get:
Connecting…
Unable to connect : java.net.SocketException : Software caused connection abort: connectI am severely ticked because I want to be with you guys in the chat, but I never can. Any help please?
August 13, 2006 at 2:55 am #124023MrEggsaladParticipantMaybe just trying a different firewall like ZoneAlarm? I seem to remember having Trillian have a little thing come up asking if it could act as a server (for IRC stuffs), and maybe the Windows Firewall isn’t doing that correctly? I’m not sure, and may just be completely wrong on this heh, but at least you’d have a step up from Windows Firewall.

October 16, 2006 at 11:58 pm #124020AwesomeSauceParticipantI’m resurrecting this topic just to say that I’ve tried previous suggestions of switching to ZoneAlarm, and it did nothing.
I am really depressed, guys. If anyone could find out what is wrong, I would be eternally grateful. I miss being in the IRC chat.
October 17, 2006 at 3:42 am #124022SpikeMemberOkay, this doesn’t seem right. Let’s start at square one.
https://bigblueball.com/forums/irc/36385-bigblueball-chat-tutorial-mirc.html
Follow that tutorial using mIRC and if anything goes wrong at all, paste exactly what the error was.
