MemberWhat surprises me is that he got away with EVERYTHING! Not charged with a darn thing!
What surprises me is that he WASN’T charged for distributing alcohol to a minor. Isn’t that a big crime to every other citizen in the United States?

Isn’t that a big crime to every other citizen in the United States?well…. two things. one is you need to get your terminology straightened out. he WAS charged with 9 counts of various offenses. he wasn’t found guilty of any of them. there’s a difference.
second, yes distributing alcohol to minors is a huge offense, but like i said, he wasn’t found guilty of doing it. whether or not he actually did it is irrelevant at this point, it comes down to whether or not the jury believes he did it. apparently they believe he didnt do it.

MemberWell yes, i mean he should have been found guilty. It seems that everyone who is a huge star or has a big name can get away with more crap than the rest of us. grrrrr.

(although his messed up a few times, so i’ve heard). great defense attorneys > public defenders.plus, even if they did get found guilty, celebrities (especially huge celebrities like MJ) rarely if ever get sent to actual prisons like Federal-Dont-Drop-the-Soap Prisons… they get sent to resorts that they’re not allowed to leave for a certain amount of time. it’s not like they’re really getting the real prison experience… some of those prisons are probably preferable to some condos

I heard that he paid about $4 million to his lawyer, or something like that.

Participanti imagine he paid well over 4 million… that’s a trivial sum. i wouldnt doubt it if his lawyer got double digit millions for this case.
plus just think of the publicity this lawyer gets now…. he got an obviously guilty person off with NOTHING. very O.J.-esque.

MemberI am disgusted. I read all about how he gave the children “jesus juice”, yet, he gets away with it. This case just further proves that money can get you ANYTHING (although, one thing that money can’t get you is happiness, something that he will never have).

MemberWell just got to work, and as normal looked at msn news, and it says not guilty on all counts! Just glad I did not have a mouth full of coffee when I saw that he had got off. Was rather shocked with the outcome sorry but I was! All my work buddies are all a bit stunned here in the uk. But if the jury did not believe any of it what can you say.

I don’t think it was a civil case, more of a criminal one.My understanding was always it had to be either, not both. I asumed it was criminal, but then someones said soemthing about the family suing, whihc means it would be civil, doesn’t it?
I could be way off, i just thought both courts were entirely different after my very little understanding of the OJ Simpson case.

ParticipantYeah, that’s what i thought too, but he was being charged with various counts and could have gone to jail, so i assume it was criminal.
But the family was asking for money, which is something that happens in civil…And actually, when someone is let off from criminal court, the family can still take them to civil court and try to get money. It’s been done before, they are found innocent in criminal court, then found guilty in civil, but no jail time, since it’s civil, only money.
I’ve been out of school for a year now, don’t remember things from my law class that well, so i may not be entirely right.:o

MemberI think the whole thing is a bunch of bull. Everybody out in California are a bunch of bleeding heart liberals (no offense to Jeff or Someguy or anyone else out there in CA). Why do you think so many people who have money live out in California in Beverly Hills or LA? All those big-time celebs, almost all of them are insanely liberal. I don’t know, maybe it’s the salt in the Pacific Ocean? 😛 I can bet you the salty ocean doesn’t do that to MY head when I go to the Jersey shore LOL! j/k
A lot of people out there feel they can just get away with anything. And it makes me a little angry.

MemberI fail to see the connection rae between calafornia being full of a bunch of bleeding heart liberals and the case against jackson failing…
Whatever we may think we didn’t see all the evidence or the testimonies of the witnesses, so we can’t really pass judgement…. I think the case mainly collapsed because it wasn’t well prosecuted.. if they’d stuck to the case that the kid has been abused they would have been much more likely to win in my view, all that stuff about them being held and made to do stuff just diverted attention, casting doubt on that one bit of the case inevitably made the rest of the charges seem flaky so the case failed…
And slightly off topic… but why does being liberal carry so many negative connotations in America… from what I can gather being called a “liberal” effectively kills chances of being elected in many states… whereas over here in Europe nearly every party is “liberal” in some respect….

MemberWell, I understand that one of the jurors said that he was not guilty of molestation in THIS case and that it did not mean he was not a child molester. I still wonder if the mother did not send the kid there to get molested so she could sue…BLAH…I’m so sick of the whole story!
