ParticipantYahoo! are currently doing network wide maintenance.
As shown on the top left of the screen notice at Yahoo! Help
I’m sure when they finish their service work everything will return to normal.

MemberDermot,
Doesn’t that notice message mean they’re working on their web page network? I don’t think it has to do with their chat system. Besides, this room access problem has been going on for several weeks now….certainly seems no different today than it was yesterday.

ParticipantIt says the Yahoo! network, meaning it’s whole network.
Since yahoo are releasing the messenger/mail combo it would be likely.
Yahoo! chat listings, ignores, room lists, ads etc are all on this network.
it may not be the immediate issue but could definately have a part in it.
but alas nonetheless we will just have to wait it out and hope yahoo! get it sorted ASAP.

Memberseems to help when i type the command manually into the room, (like /join california:3) and then hit enter. then i push the up arrow on the keyboard and it gives you the previous command. Fire a quick burst of 3 of those, and I seem to get in pretty quick.

MemberYes, this has been a growing problem the last couple weeks to the last couple months. A lot of users are fed up with it and are now posting on the Yahoo! Messenger Blog complaining about the SPAM and server lag.

ParticipantI don’t use chat rooms regularly so it’s not a big deal for me, but never mind taking long to join a chat room, it’s not joining at all now. The client is not even receiving a rooms/categories list anymore. It’s been like that the last three times I’ve attempted to use a chat room.
I know Yahoo doesn’t owe anyone anything since their chat rooma are a free service, but they’re alienating their chat user base by essentially locking them out of rooms. I imagine many people are going to get fed up with long waits to get in (if at all) and either stop using chat rooms or find alternative services.

ParticipantIRC is always an option
Yahoo! need to either combat the Spam & Spim issue or get more servers
Their current payload is not been handled on the 60 chat servers they have at present.
But knowing yahoo they will try and optimize the servers with slowing down roolist servers or something else before they would add more servers.

ParticipantMyspace has [flash based] chat rooms.

ParticipantMyspace is also infested with porn bots
I just deleted my myspace the other day after 51 e-mails asking to be added by porn bots

Memberi think yahoo should get rid of the bots that are clogging the network. Traffic from real people would zip right along.

ParticipantI tried two clients concurrently. What seems to work well for me is Yahelite. It gets me into a chat room relatively quickly. I tried the same room with Y! Messenger several times and it wouldn’t enter chat at all, except once after a very long wait.
