I never claimed to like the holidays, actually. So shhhhh.
And to put this as nicely as possible….. Just because you CHOOSE to be a depressed being and not acknowledge holidays doesn’t mean you have to be a grump towards others who choose to celebrate them.
And just for you, I definitely won’t plant a tree – I want to make tree fairy friends.
Oh and just stop with the whole one can’t live without the other, if I wanted to hear a whole ying/yang THEORY, I’d go read up on it somewhere else.
PS: It’s nice you say you don’t care – it may give you better feed for your statuses. And before I get scolded I’ll be good. Although I will say I do not take back what I said, it’s just rude to have someone come crash a thread this way. If you don’t believe in the holidays, just don’t post in this one thread – that would have saved all this trouble/drama.

That is a pretty ignorant/arrogant statement. A lot of statutory holidays are based on religion. Just because it seems you are non-religious, they don’t mean anything? Maybe you should reword that to not meaning anything to you.
Not really, just expressing an opinion. Holidays only mean something to those who want them to mean something, obviously I do not. Call it whatever you will, I have some hate for certain reasons, yet at the same time I completely ignore holidays, it’s such a clash sometimes, so, it’s both at the same time, yet not if that makes any sense, which I doubt it will.

Make me, hehe. =P
Ultimately we all choose who we want to be. If I choose to be the local Grinch, that’s my business… don’t be surprised if I steal your presents though. 😉 And to be honest, it’s fun to pick on people who celebrate holidays (I promise I don’t laugh at people who celebrate holidays). 😉
But those poor tree fairies have their work cut out for them… 🙁
Ying yang stuff? No, nothing like that. Think about it this way, without knowing of the negativity about something, you wouldn’t see the positivity from it. It’s more a guide than anything else.
Meh, I didn’t see any rule about not expressing an opinion about such things. Yes, I know the old saying “if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all”, but I really did that, I would truly be mute. 😉
Thankfully those dreaded holidays are over now… even though I hate (yes hate, not ignoring that one) Valentine’s Day which really isn’t a holiday. Although, I have to admit I love those little conversation hearts. 😮 Don’t get me started on birthdays though, especially my own. Celebrating one’s birth, especially my own, isn’t exactly appealing to me.
Just another day.
P.S. I think we can drop this now since those dreadful holidays are over now.
January 3, 2009 at 6:56 pm #172588Doris KenneyParticipantBirthdays? I try not to acknowledge them anymore than absolutely necessary. If I can make it through one with no hoopla it’s even better.
And Valentine’s? Well I suppose if you have someone you wish to share it with it’s fine – but for those of us who are single (and seemingly destined to stay that way) it’s more a grim reminder we are so very totally alone. I don’t care for it either. Somehow it’s not the same when you have to buy your own chocolates and diamonds LOL.
I imagine it’s hard for some people to understand the lack of enthusiasm we seem to share Ven0m, but I for one totally understand where you’re coming from.
January 4, 2009 at 12:27 am #172584imported_Ven0mMemberDoris, I knew there was a reason I liked you. =)
January 4, 2009 at 1:20 am #172589Doris KenneyParticipantWell, anytime you wanna holiday bash you just let me know! I’m here for yah buddy!!
January 4, 2009 at 2:53 am #172571detn8rParticipantHolidays are meant for celebration. If you have nothing to celebrate, for what ever reason (sacrilegious, different religion, bad experiences etc) why does anyone feel it necessary to inflict negativeness among others because of it?

I honestly DO NOT care if you don’t celebrate holidays, for what ever reason. But, to state that a celebration needs someone to dwell on it to make it proper is completely senseless.
I welcome a debate, but refuse to indulge based on ignorance and insults.
Remember what I said, most true holidays are based on religion. Do not insult your peers.
January 4, 2009 at 4:44 pm #172590Doris KenneyParticipantI was raised in a God fearing home and I know the religious stories as well as anyone. Last I checked, Santa and his reindeer and the Easter bunny were not in the Bible stories I was taught. The fact that commercialization has all but eclipsed the religion behind most holidays must only be apparent (and troubling) to me.
But I guess the message is clear – if you don’t like the holidays do the brotherly thing and suffer in silence! Those of us who like them don’t want to be troubled listening to anything that might make use uncomfortable or might give us reason ponder outside the holiday box we’ve wrapped so perfectly.
I’m done. No more from me on this topic.
January 4, 2009 at 6:20 pm #172577NessaParticipantThis should be my last post in this thread but I do have to say: No one said you have to suffer in silence. This thread is called “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!” not “Discuss your holiday opinions here” so when the holiday comments began, it was just not something that was warranted. If you want to bash the holidays or just state your opinion on them, do so freely but obviously expect a comment if you post in opposite threads. It’s like if someone starts an “I Love Dogs” thread and someone goes and says why cats are so much better. The author of that thread wasn’t looking to hear why cats are better but to find who shares his love of dogs. Yes, this is a forum for discussion but to each their own I guess.
I don’t have anything against people who choose not to celebrate holidays or not to acknowledge them, but I do have something against people coming out and pushing buttons on those who do by commenting negatively in a thread of wishful and hopeful thinking.
To be honest, Philip did an awesome job of keeping his personal issues away from stopping him from wishing everyone a happy holidays, and patndoris, you posted your opinions about not believing in the holidays, but ven0m took it a step further and bashed the holidays to me which is why I responded to begin with.
But what this thread should be about: Happy Holidays Everyone Whether You Celebrate or Not!
